Aunt Regina,
We just learned of the passing of your dear Tom. Regretfully we own got to meet him once. When those we love go away, they never really leave us;
they are with us now, wherever we are.

Today I was deeply saddened to learn of the loss of Tom Wear. Though my contact with him was limited to twice a year: picking up and dropping off the boat I'd bought from him fifteen years ago, I always left him with a renewed faith in decent, honest, hard-working people. Tom's word was his bond and I never worried about being treated fairly. Though tiny by comparison to the many boats he sold and serviced, my little 18 foot Wellcraft was treated with great care and respect and Tom treated me like an old friend. Today, as I left my boat for the winter, for the first time in fifteen years, I hesitated, wondering if it would be OK next year. Though I do trust the men who remain at the yard, something very special and personal was missing.
My thought are with his family and friends today; I can only imagine how difficult his loss must be for them. Though our paths crossed but occasionally, it was always a pleasure to share that moment or two with Tom. I'm very happy to have known him and I will truly miss the few moments our paths crossed each year.

Regina,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
Tom was a quiet man but we knew that he was the type that would be right there in a friends time of need. Dropping what he had to do to help others.
He was an especially loving and great friend and partner to you Regina. Anyone could tell by just looking at the two of you to know how much you loved and cared about each other. You were both a match only heaven could create.
God called Tom home a little to early for all of us. But God does have a special place for Tom because he was a special man here on earth. He was welcomed into Heaven with all of the Angels and into God's open embrace.
I know that Tom is scooting around heaven in his yellow hummer helping everyone who thinks they know how to navigate a boat but find themselves in trouble. Tom will be there to show them the ropes on boating.
He was a true friend to the ones he held close and in some cases a hero to the ones he helped.
Ray always saw Tom at Woodport Deli each morning when he went for coffee. Ray misses those short morning meetings.

I have known tommy for many years my brother in law worked for him for many years . I used to go down there when I was in grammer school , I used to deliver his newspaper and eventually his mail for awhile . and tommy had this 1987 Grand National in his garage it was my dream car for about 15 years or more I tried to buy this car from him I finally gave up and we had a joke between us everytime I saw him in the deli , the Wearhouse or in the Post office I would say Tommy hows my car he with a big tommy grin would say its fine . I in turn would say does it still have crap piled on it well still with his grin would say yes . this was our joke . and I will miss kidding about that beatiful car with him . rest in peace Tommy My thoughts are with you reggie

My husband, Bill, and I first met Tom about 11 years ago when we bought a boat from him for use at Green Pond. Although we ony saw each other once or twice a year when he came to deliver or service our boat, I always enjoyed talking with him. We had a few things in common (one being that my high school friend lives on N. Maryland Ave. and her daughter, Tracy, worked in the restaurant!), and I'm really glad our paths briefly crossed. I'm so sorry he had to endure such an illness, and may he rest in peace.

To Regina & The Wear Family,
I don't think Tom ever realized the effect he had on so many people. In his own way he touched so many of our lives and he truly made a difference. He always made me laugh and set me straight when it was needed. Many years have passed since we have crossed paths but I know that he is in a peaceful place now where he can rest. I was fortunate enough to be an employee of Tom's for two years. During that time I built a friendship with him and Regina making it hard to leave the restaurant when I graduated. One of my fondess memories was about a year before I turned 21 I wrote this contract up and had Tom sign it, it said that on my 21st birthday Tom would buy me a cosmopolitan. He signed it but what he didnt know was at the bottom of the page in small print I wrote "and as many other drinks as I want". A year later I came back with that piece of paper and Tom treated me to a cosmo... I still have that letter.
My heart goes out to Regina and Tom's family...you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

I have had the pleasure of know Tom on a few different levels. He was my boss who taught me the business (and he often reminded me about that). He was also my friend who I had many long conversation with. Yes, the man of very few words did know how to express himself to those close to him. More importantly, he was my mentor. He taught me how to handle certain customers and people in general, and I would love to watch him during a deal. He could get more impact out of the word "NO" than anyone you will ever meet( a "NO" from Tom REALLY ment "NO).
I could go on and on with stories of our adventures, but then I may never get off the computer. It has been said that what we do in life echoes with us through eternity. Your example will be with me forever.
And to my "big sister" Regina you truely are an Angel.

My memories are so full and begin with the first day you were brought home from the hospital, as an infant. I sat on the big gray couch and you were placed in my arms. I fell in love with you that instant. You became "my" baby to play with and tend to.
As years passed, we all watched you quietly build things with blocks with your little hands, then legos, and your well-used erector set.
You went from there to cars, planes and finally boats. Our days at Barnegat Bay on Dad's boat were so special.
You have lived a good life, doing just what you wanted to do but I am sure there were even more ideas for the future. Dad would have proudly given his stamp of approval.
Your life included some of the most extraordinary friends and workers that I have been fortunate enough to meet. You would be surprised on how much you were loved and respected.
And most of all, Regina, the love of your life. Her devotion to you through the good times and for the last seven months, has been beyond comprehension. Mom would have loved her so much. I know that I shall always cherish her for the unfailing love and care she unselfishly gave you through your illness.
My words often told you that you were my dear sweet brother and that I loved you.
You just did not know how much. Be at peace , little brother. You are now with Mom, Dad, Lorraine and our adored grandfather, Eugene G. Wear.

I have been doing business with Tom for 18+ yrs. & have always respected him & admired him. He was always hardworking, fair & honest and I will be forever grateful for his good business advice. I will miss him coming into my shop with a repair or boat cover and telling me with a sly grin that he needed it done yesterday. He was always busting my chops. He has touched so many lives. Dear Regina:
Over 21 yr. ago,we purchased our home on Halsey Island, and docked our boat at Prospect Point Marina. Tommy kept an eye on my progress driving the boats...and waited every Sunday evening for me to pull in from the island. He would hold up his fingers to rate my docking ability each week...and was there to offer me a soda the night I earned by first "10."
We laughed often, especially the times he made me take out our latest puppies to show to you, Regina. He was so pleased to be with you...it was very evident. Ed and I will always remember him, his dry wit, and those wonderful smiles I received every Sunday night. Thank you, Tom, I know you are keeping an eye on "those crazy Halsey Islanders." May the joy of being well loved be with you always, Regina. Our sympathies to Tom's family.

Tom sold me my first boat for $325 in 1986. It was a used brown Glastron runabout that probably hadn't been on the water in a long, long time. It didn't look too good or go very fast. But it was a good deal, ran well and gave my friends and me many summers of enjoyment. Over the years I've transacted business with Tom many times and always found him to be a fair and honest man who kept his word. He was super smart and worked non-stop, a real entrepreneur who earned every bit of his success.
Many years after that first boat our growing family spent many an evening at 'our' table at Tom's Wearhouse Grille. We got to know Tom on a more personal level because he always came to our table to chat about things. It was then that we could tell how happy Tom was. His hard work and dedication was paying off with growing and successful businesses. And of course he had Regina - she completed him. Good times were ahead of them both.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Regina as well as Tom's family.

Like other Halsey Islanders, I docked my boat at Prospect Point Boatyard for many years before it was sold.
Yes, Tom could be a bit grouchy at times, but when I bought a boat from him and several days passed and I had not returned to my slip, he noticed. He telephoned me to make sure I wasn't at the bottom of Lake Hopatcong along with the new boat.
I found Tom to be a good man and an honest man. I'm so sorry he didn't "live to comb gray hairs," as the Irish saying goes. He'll be missed. He was an asset to the community.

It is very hard to believe that Tom has passed. Lake Hopatcong will not be the same without him...One could not miss him in his "Very Bright Yellow Hummer"...He died the same way he lived..Hard work and perseverance to the end...Sure heaven will welcome him...Sure he has his "wings"....he is the pilot that he always wanted to be...they say "everything is perfect in heaven" No pain or suffering.Thank you for everything.

We have fond memories of seeing Tom in the yellow Hummer going between the two marinas and at the Wearhouse Grill. We enjoyed he and Reginas hospitality at frequent lunches and dinners at the Wearhouse for many years. He will be missed. Our sincere condolences to Regina and Toms family.

Uncle Tom was admired, respected and loved by not only me, but by all those who knew him. To those closest to him I say this:
Mom, I know how deeply saddened you are by Tom's passing. There just are no words to make it any better. After all, he is your "little brother" and always will be. But, what are little brothers for without a few devilish antics. Such as, how many people knew he was budding photographer when he would hide and sneak pictures of you and your dates! Who knew he had so many talents.
Regina, your love and support for Tom all these years, especially when he needed it most shows what a true and kind woman you are. Apparently, he knew an exceptional woman as well as he knew his boats!! I can't tell you how grateful I am that you were there not only for him, but for my mother as well. I know you miss him. Dearest Tommy,
You were the first person I met in 1954. We were both 4 years old. We became fast friends. I'll always remember your Birthday parties. You always made me your guest of honor. I'll always remember swimming in your pool and how your father taught me to swim. And then, as young children, I remember our playing Dear and Honey.
Of course there were all the times we played baseball, badmitten, and croquet, as well as horses and statues. We use to concoct paint colors in the cold cellar--they all came out to be army green.
Most of all,Tommy,I'll always remember you as a brother. We had many adventures--like the first time we went camping using a sheet for a tent.We got scared and made my brother camp with us. We each brought our favorite stuffed animal for protection. We had many good times and of course some not so good. But I'll always think of you as my BFF.
God speed to you my gentle friend. I will never forget you or October 19--your Birthday.
