John Richard Applegate, 59, died on Sunday July 31, 2005 at Cherry Lane Nursing Home in Laurel, MD. He was born in Morristown, NJ and grew up in Butler. He had lived in Denville for 34 years before moving to Elkridge, Md. Last year. John had graduated from Butler H.S. in Butler and later received an Assoc. degree in Business Management fro County College of Morris in 1971. He owned and operated J.R.A. Payroll Equipment of Denville from 1983 until 1998 when he became a Medical Technician for Porta-Medic of Randolph until retiring in November 2004. John was a Eucharistic Minister at Resurrection Parish in Randolph, and was a member of the Our Lady of the Lakes Council Knights of Columbus in Denville, NJ. He had been a coach for the Denville Little League, and for Denville Hub Soccer League. He played in the Denville Mens Softball League and had been a Boy Scout Leader in Denville. He was also a Vol. For St. Clare's Harvest Festival in Denville, NJ. He is survived by his wife of 36 years Elaine D. nee Grippi. His three children Heather Applegate of Columbia, MD, John Applegate and his wife Binh of Philadelphia, PA. and Courtney Applegate of Elkridge, MD. A granddaughter Faith Applegate of Philadelphia, and two brothers Robert of Stockholm, NJ, William of Philadelphia, PA., and a sister Lynn Sliker of Washington, NJ. Funeral from the Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave.Denville, NJ www.normandean.com on Thursday August 4, 2005 at 9:00 AM for a 10:15 AM Liturgy of Christian Burial Service at Resurrection Parish 651 Millbrook Ave. Randolph, NJ 07960. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Donations are being accepted to Resurrection Parish in his name.
