George W. Carpenter Jr. Passed away at St. Clares Hospital in Dover on April 23, 2005. He was 79 years old. Born in Mamaroneck, NY, he had lived in Mahwah, NJ for 30 years prior to moving to Denville, and then Lincoln Park. During the last 20 years he and his wife had wintered in Bradenton, FL. George had served in the US Air Force during WWII. He received his BA from East Stroudsburg University and his MA from New York University. He went on to become a teacher, athletic director and Chairman of the athletic department at Mahwah High School for 30 years before retiring in 1981. His wife of 52 years, Agnes (Nee Harriott) of Lincoln Park, survives him. His children Karen Leggett of Lincoln Park, Paula L. Bello of Sewell, NJ, George W. III of Nashville, NC, Timothy of Denville, and Scott Carpenter of Carriere, MS also survive him. His grandchildren Stephanie & Dominick Bello III, and Trevor & Molly Carpenter and his sister Marilyn Johnson of Agawam, MA also survive him.
