Obituary of Arthur E. “Art” Tokle Sr.

Arthur Emil Tokle Sr. 82, Olympian, Coach, Author Rockaway Township- Arthur E. Tokle Sr., 82, a resident of the Lake Telemark section of Rockaway Township died Thursday, March 3, 2005 at the Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Clares Hospital Dover, NJ. Mr. Tokle was born in Lokken-Verk, Norway, prior to his arrival in the United States he served in the Kings Guard, Oslo, Norway. He arrived in the United States in 1947. He was a member of the US Ski Team, Olympic athlete and coach. He skied on several World Championship Teams and was National Ski Jumping Champion. He is a member of the US National Ski Hall of Fame. In 1971 he co-authored The Complete Guide to Cross Country Skiing. Mr. Tokle was a member of Jephthah Lodge #233 F & AM, Carpenters Union Local #620 and the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Telemark. Survivors include his beloved wife of 56 years Oddfrid (Larsen) Tokle, his son Arthur Jr. and his wife Suzanne, a daughter Vivian Lynch, six grandchildren, two great grandchildren; also a sister Lilly Stein of Meldal, Norway.
