Mary H. Doherty, Belleville kindergarten teacher, loving Aunt
Glen Ridge - Mary H. Doherty, 72, entered into eternal life on Thursday (October, 14, 2004). Born in Montclair, she lived most of her life in Belleville before moving to Glen Ridge 14 years ago. Mary graduated fromNew Jersey City University in 1954 and was a kindergarten teacher in the Belleville School System for thirty-five years, retiring in 1989. She enjoyed children and playing the piano. Maryspenther summers at Estling Lake, swimming with dear friends who kept the songs of her soul playing when she could no longer sing them. Mary was an avid reader and had a keen sense of humor. She knitted beautiful garments and blankets for family and friends and participated in The Rose Knitting Circle at Saint Barnabas Medical Center making knitted booties and caps for newborns. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Bloomfield. She is predeceased by her parents, Richard M. and Clara T. Doherty, her brothers, Richard M. and James J. Doherty and her sister, Claire D. Knox. Mary had fifteen nieces and nephews and many grand nieces and nephews. Services will be held at The Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville, followed by a 10 a.m. funeral liturgy at St. Catherines of Siena in Mtn. Lakes. Miss Doherty will be laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Florham Park. Friends will be received from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Funeral Home (www.normandean.com).
