Arthur I. Preston passed away at Franciscan Oaks in Denville, NJ on March 1, 2013 at the age of 91. Raised in Brooklyn where he lived for 35 years, he then moved to Staten Island, NY for many years before moving to NJ. Arthur was a decorated veteran of WWII and Korea. He had served as a combat marine engineer and was a marksman for the US Army. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Clare’s Church in Staten Island for 50 years, a founding member of the Great Kills Swim Club, and Franciscan Oaks in Denville, NJ for 2 years. Arthur had worked as a Marine Engineer/Surveyor for the US Coast Guard for many years before retiring in 1984. As Patriarch of the family, Arthur was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who’s family meant everything to him. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Eleanor (Powers) Preston of Denville, NJ. He is also survived by his 7 children, Jeffrey, Jeanette, Brian, Judy, Arthur Jr., Douglas and Robert as well as his 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Funeral services will begin on Tuesday March 5, 2013 at 9AM at Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave Denville, NJ 07834 and then going to St. Mary’s Church in Denville for a 10AM Liturgy of Christian Burial Mass. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Chester, NJ. Friends may visit on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9PM. Please light a candle in his memory at: www.normandean.com.
