Elizabeth D. Bette Engelhardt, 69, died on Easter Sunday April 11, 2004 at her home in Denville, NJ. She was born and raised in Jersey City, NJ and moved to Denville, in 1967. Bette received a BS in Education from Jersey City State Teachers College in 1957. Later she received a Masters in Psychology and Maladjusted Children also from Jersey City Teacher College. She went on to get a Certification in 1969 for Learning Disabilities and Consulting as well as a certificate as a School Personal Services and a Preschool Teaching Certificate, all from Kean College in Union NJ. She was a School Teacher and Child Advocate. She started teaching for Jersey City Board of Education in PS # 22, and PS # 30. Then in 1967 she came to Denville Township Board of Education and continued her career teaching at the Main Street School, Riverview, Lakeview and Valleyview Schools as well as at St. Marys Parochial school in Denville, retiring in 1998. 1) She had received Teacher of the year at Riverview School by Gov. James Florio. 2) She had received the NJ State Department of Health Award for the organization and founding of D-Day in Denville / Denville Kids are Smart and Wont Start, from 1990 to 2003. 3) She was the Denville Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the year in 1991. 4) She was a founding member of the Joey Bella Memorial Fund. 5) St. Marys RC Church first team of Eucharistic Ministers since 1981. 6) Chairperson and organizer of St. Judes Math-a-thon for ten years in Denville. 7) Founding member of the Municipal Drug Alliance in Denville, NJ. She is survived by her husband of 43 years Harold E. , her sons Scott of Glenwood, NJ and Bryan of Dover, NJ. Grandchildren Matthew Bryan, and Madison Elizabeth. Her daughter of her heart Julia Case, of Denville, and sister Rosemarie DeNicola of Chester, NJ. Funeral from the Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave. Denville, NJ www.normandean.com on Saturday April 17, 2004 at 8:30 AM for a 10:00 AM Liturgy of Christian Burial Service at St. Marys RC Church in Denville, NJ. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday Evening 7-9 PM and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
