Obituary of Karen A. Curry

Please share a memory of Karen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Karen A. Curry passed away suddenly after a tragic accident on June 5, 2024 at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown. She had shared 80 years of unconditional love, infectious laughter, and unforgettable memories with family and friends.

Born and raised in Buffalo, NY to the late Wallace and Eileen Anderson, Karen grew up alongside her younger brother, creating the greatest experiences. At age 12, Karen met a young boy named James Curry; as the years grew, so did their relationship. By senior year of High School, they were smitten and a full-fledged couple. She graduated from Amherst Central High School, Class of 1961. Karen then went on to attend Ohio University before she was swept off her feet by Jim. They were married in 1964 and their journey on this rollercoaster we call life, began. It all started in Buffalo, NY, followed by Albion NY, then a brief stint in Nebraska, then Galveston, TX, and Blue Springs, MO before settling down in their forever home in Parsippany, NJ in 1975. Karen was a hard and dedicated worker. She had been employed with AT&T in Parsippany for many years, which became Lucent Technologies. She began in the Logistics & Distribution department and worked her way up to Human Resources Administrator of the Marketing Support and Sales Group before retirement. Above all, her ultimate favorite career was being a wife, mother, and grandmother; she excelled at all three! Once their children were grown, Karen and Jim explored the world together. They visited places all over Europe; Ireland, Scotland, Switzerland, Italy, France, Spain and Portugal and even China, too! The sun rose and set on her grand babies, they could do wrong. Our Matriarch will be forever missed and always treasured.

Karen was an optimistic woman with a heart of gold. Her passion was gardening! She was talented and enthusiastic about horticulture, which is evident by the beautiful gardens Karen grew on her property. She was a member and past President of Friends of The Frelinghuysen Arboretum where Karen co-chaired their annual plant sale for over 10 years. She was also a member of The Home Garden Club of Morristown, the North American Rock Garden Society, and the American Hosta Society. Her loss will be felt by many.

Her legacy will live on for generations to come in the hearts of her adored family members; her beloved husband of 60 years, James A. Curry; her loving children, Suzanne Honchalk and her husband David and Jeff Curry and his wife Susan; her cherished grandchildren, Delaney, Samuel, and Matthew Honchalk and James N. Curry; her caring brother, Martin Anderson and his wife Christine Waters; her kind sister-in-law, Kathleen (the late Paul) Schonewolf; her dear nieces and nephews, Leslie, Patrick, Linda, Paul, Marybeth, and Karen; and many more extended family and friends.

Relatives and friends are welcome to visit with the family on Saturday, June 15th from 10 – 1 pm with a Funeral Service beginning at 12:30 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville. Memorial Donations are being accepted in Karen’s memory to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital or The Garden Conservancy by way of www.inmemof.org to ensure receipt of your donation.
