Harold Buchanan

Obituary of Harold Buchanan

Please share a memory of Harold to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with heavy hearts that we must announce the passing of Harold R. Buchanan, who passed away peacefully at The Oaks of Denville on February 5th, 2024. Harold was a respected member of his community and a loving family man who will be remembered dearly.

Harold was a life-long resident of Denville and loved being a part of the tight-knit community. As his sons grew up he was an active member of the Boy Scouts Troop #17, as well as being a long standing member of the Masonic St. John’s Lodge No. 1 of Mountain Lakes. When it comes to memberships, though, nothing comes close to his esteemed title of longest standing member of Denville Community Methodist Church! Harold worked as an engineer and computer salesman throughout his career and earned his private pilot license after his time in the United States Air Force.

But even after all those accomplishments, there was always one thing that was top priority to Harold; his family. His wife, sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of his life. Any time spent with his family was not time wasted, and he was dedicated to keeping his family as close as he could. Even in his final months, his entire family came to spend such quality time with him and reflect on the priceless memories they shared together.

And though his passing brings us sorrow, we take comfort in knowing that he is at peace, reunited in heaven with his beloved wife, Elaine Buchanan. It is now we look to those he leaves behind to carry on his memory of love and dedication. Harold’s survivors include his sons, Kenneth Buchanan and his wife Barbara, Gary Buchanan, Glenn Buchanan (Lisa), his grandchildren, Allsion Buchanan (husband Brian Park), Kenny Buchanan (wife Tara Buchanan), his great grandchildren, JR Buchanan, Oliver Buchanan, Taylor Matchler, his sister, Athena Leonard, his sister-in-law, Gladys Sullivan, as well as a wealth of friends and neighbors who will remember him fondly.

A memorial service is tentatively scheduled  for the afternoon of June 15th at Norman Dean in Denville. Please check back for more memorial info.
