Obituary of Lorraine E. Benderoth
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lorraine Benderoth, a long time Mount Arlington resident. Lorraine was the most incredible, strong-willed person who endured many ups and downs, she faced each obstacle with courage and optimism. She left this world on Monday, June 26th, 2023, at St. Barnabas Hospital.
Lorraine was born to Harriett and Sven Eike in Brooklyn, New York on May 14, 1946. When she was 5 years old, she moved from Brooklyn to Lake Telemark. She was raised for 16 years as an only child in Lake Telemark before her brother, Doug, came along. She attended school in Rockaway Township and graduated from Morris Hills High School in 1964. After high school she worked as a bank teller for a short time, but her real career was in tax collecting. Lorraine served as the Rockaway Township Tax Collector for over 25 years. She truly enjoyed her years working at Rockaway Township where she made many friends with whom she enjoyed spending time with, both in and out of work.
During her time at Morris Hills, Lorraine met her husband, Joseph “Joe” Benderoth, and the pair were married on September 24, 1966 and began their family. They raised their 2 wonderful children, Dianne and Craig, in Mount Hope, New Jersey. And though Lorraine and Joe parted ways, Lorraine and their children remember their time together fondly. Lorraine then moved to Mount Arlington Gardens, where she has spent the last 26 years. In her free time, Lorraine enjoyed travelling, getting together with friends and family. She also had a soft spot for her pet cockatiel, Buddy, who has been with her for almost 30 years.
Lorraine will be remembered as a loving mother and sister and caring friend by all who knew her. Though her passing brings us sorrow, we take comfort in knowing she is reunited with those who passed before her; her parents, Harriett and Sven Eike, as well as her former husband, Joe Benderoth. It is now the task of her loved ones she leaves behind to carry out her memory. Her survivors include her children, Dianne Maka (John), Craig Benderoth (Ruth), her grandchildren, John, Jesse, Justin, Alyssa, Hannah, Tommy, her brother, Doug Eike (Bethann), her niece, Brielle, her nephew, Tyler (Julianne), her cousin, Joan Everson, the Halverson family, her loving extended family in Norway, and of course, her beloved pet, Buddy, as well as a wealth of extended family, friends, and neighbors. Please keep these people in your thoughts and prayer during this trying time. If you would like to contribute to Lorraine’s memory yourself, please consider making a memorial donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital via inmemof.org
A memorial service/celebration of life for Lorraine has been scheduled for Saturday, August 5th. The service will be held at 10 AM at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Greenpond Road, Rockaway. The celebration of life will take place at NorBu Lodge, Lake Telemark immediately following the service.
