Obituary of Donald Van Ness McLane
Donald VanNess McLane of Rockaway, New Jersey, age 78, passed away on Monday, April 24th, 2023. Don was born to Grace E. McLane (Risden) and Cardwell N. McLane on April 9th, 1945. He was raised in Livingston, NJ, and attended Livinston High School. After High School, he joined the United States Air Force where he was an airplane mechanic. In the Air Force Don was able to travel and see many different parts of the world. He travelled to Europe, Japan, and Hawaii. He worked at Honeywell (Formerly Allied Signal), in Morristown, NJ, for 28 years where he was an electrician and maintenance mechanic. He was a very handy man, a real Mr. Fix-It. He retired from Honeywell in April 2007.
Don lived life to the fullest. He loved skiing, biking, golfing, hunting, fishing, and just being outdoors. He was a longtime member of the HIGH LIFE Ski Club. He actively participated in club activities, and he deeply enjoyed being part of this family where he made life-long friends.
Don loved to do many things, but above all else he loved being with his family. He was a devoted father to three sons; Brian, Scott, and Kevin. And a loving grandfather (Pop pop) to his granddaughter, Ella Grace. He will be deeply missed by all.
Donald was predeceased by his brother, Robert C. McLane, of South Carolina, and his brother-in-law, Edward D. Andersen of Forked River. He is survived by his sister, Joyce (McLane) Andersen of Forked River, his three sons, Brian W. McLane and wife, Kim, and their daughter, Ella Grace, Scott A. McLane, and Kevin McLane. Donald is also survived by his former wife and mother of his three sons, Cathy (Eckhardt) Holzmann, as well as many loving nieces and nephews. A public visitation service for Donald will be held on Sunday, April 30th from 1 to 5 PM at Norman Dean Home for Services. A funeral Service will take place the following day, Monday, May 1st, at 10 AM at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Ave, Denville, NJ. Immediately following the service at the funeral home, there will be an interment service held at Restland Memorial Park, 77 Deforest Ave, East Hanover, NJ.
