Obituary of Lena D. Smith

Lena D. Smith (nee Letts) passed away on Friday March 14, 2003 at Morristown Memorial Hospital. She was 83 years old. Born in Mayfield, PA, where as a young woman she was a member of the Choir at the Methodist Church in Jermyn, PA. She had moved to Irvington, NJ where she was a member of the Sacred Heart Church. She was also a Eucharistic minister and a member of the rosary & Alter society. While in Irvington she worked for 11 years as a school crossing guard before retiring in 1982. 21 years ago she moved to Denville, NJ and became known as The Town Sitter because she baby-sat numerous children in the area. She also became a member of the Denville Sr. Citizens and held many offices over the last 21 years including vice president most recently. Her husband the Late William J. Smith passed away in December of 1975. She is survived by her daughter Sarah Smith of Denville, and Her son & daughter in-law Patrick & Carroll Smith of Ironia, NJ. 2 grandchildren Amanda & Kyle and a Sister Mary DAngelo of Mohawk, NY. Funeral services will begin at the funeral home on Tuesday March 18 at 9:45 before proceeding to St. Marys church for a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:45AM. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover. Friends may visit on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9PM.
