Obituary of Robert R. McCaffrey, Jr.

Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Robert R. McCaffrey, Jr. passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at St. Clare’s Hospital in Dover. He had shared 80 years of unconditional love, infectious laughter, and priceless memories with family and friends.

Born and raised in Richmond, NY, renamed Staten Island in 1975, to the late Robert, Sr. and Edna McCaffrey, Robert was one of 3 children to bless their household. While in Richmond, Robert developed a love for horses. His first job was training and taking care of them and he even raised a couple of his own. At age 15, the McCaffrey family relocated to NJ. After graduating High School, he proudly served our country in the United States Navy where he was stationed on the USS Cony, DDE-508, a Fletcher-class destroyer. He made a very successful career for himself as an Electrician working most recently for Arrow Fastener Company, Inc. in Saddle Brook for 40 years. It was there that he met the love of his life, Norma Rosa Rios; they were married in 1992.

Robert had the best sense of humor – he was always making others around him laugh. He also enjoyed tomatoes, sharing a meal with relatives and friends, and above anything else, his family. He adored his beautiful wife and was an attentive husband, loving father, doting grandfather, caring brother, and incredible friend. He will forever be missed and treasured in our hearts and memories. Although we are deeply saddened by his passing, we take comfort in knowing he is now reunited with his parents and sister, Dorothea.

His legacy of hard work and dedication will live on in the hearts of his beloved wife, Norma; his sons, Robert McCaffrey and his wife Yolanda “Yo” and Michael McCaffrey and his wife Karen; his step-children, Norma Rios and her husband Jesse Lopez and Eddy Rios; his cherished grandchildren, Ian Cubero, Robert, Edna, and Louis Rios, Nathan Lopez, and Devin and Miranda McCaffrey; his sister, Barbara Balla; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Public Visitation will take place on Sunday, November 14th from 1 – 5 pm with the Funeral Service beginning at 3:30 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville, NJ 07834. Burial will be private. Please leave a condolence, light a candle, or share your favorite memory of Robert here to continue to celebrate the incredible life he endowed to us.
