Obituary of Gerwina Bayer

Sister Mary Gerwina Bayer, SSM, died peacefully on February 20, 2003 at Saint Helens Retirement Center in Denville, New Jersey. Sister Gerwina was 90 years old. She was born in Stegbrunk Bayern, Germany. Sister Gerwina entered the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother on October 19, 1933 in Abenberg, Germany. She came to the United States on August 26, 1936 and pronounced her final vows in August 1941. Sister Gerwina was a member of the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother for 70 years. She was stationed at St. Francis Health Resort in Denville, New Jersey where she served the guests for fifty-five years until her retirement in 1990. Sister Gerwina is survived by one sister, Johanna Estenfelder, and many nieces and nephews in Germany. The mass of Christian Burial services was celebrated by Rev. William Freeswick on Monday February 24, 2003 at 10:00AM at Our Lady of Sorrows Chapel in Denville, New Jersey. Sister Gerwina was laid to rest in Our Lady of Sorrows Convent Cemetery in Denville, New Jersey
