Obituary of Elsa Bogdanow

Please share a memory of Elsa to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Elsa Bogdanow went home peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Morris View Health Care Center. She was 93 years young. Born and raised in Czechoslovakia, now the Czech Republic; she immigrated to Germany and found a sanctuary from the Nazi labor camps in a monastery by helping out in the kitchen. Cooking then became a passion for her. She later relocated to Caracas, Venezuela where she became the cook for more fortunate folks. Finally, she made it to the United States. Elsa became the cook at The Kennedy Center, a center for mentally and emotionally challenged children. She was always a hard worker and more importantly, a survivor. She knew how to adapt and succeed no matter where she was or what she was doing. Elsa was a member of the Denville Senior Citizens and St. Catherine of Siena Church. She volunteered her time with St. Clare's Hospital at the Bargain Barn. When she was able to, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, and cooking. She was certainly an exceptional lady that will hold a very special place in our hearts forever. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Dimitri and son, George, left to keep her legacy alive are her loving children, Ursula (James) Buist and Walter (Gail) Bogdanow; her cherished grandchildren, W. Scott (Jennifer Wu) Buist, and Anya, Christa, and Johanna Bogdanow; her adored great-grandchildren, Maisie and Wyatt; her caring sister, Cecilia (the late Franz) Vejvodova; and many nieces and nephews. All services are private and under the direction of Norman Dean Home for Services. Please leave a condolence for her family. Memorial Donations can be made in her memory to Vitas Healthcare Hospice by way of www.inmemoryof-memorial.org.
