Obituary of Jeanne A. Frick

Please share a memory of Jeanne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jeanne Allen Frick passed away peacefully on Friday, January 29. She was 98. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Union Congregational Church, 176 Cooper Ave, Montclair, NJ 07043. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider donations in her memory to the good work of the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37839, Boone, IA 50037. Born in Pittsburgh, PA to the late John F. and Lillian W. Allen, Jeanne was one of three children. The family later moved to Philadelphia, PA, and then Montclair, NJ. After graduating from Montclair High School, Jeanne graduated from Hollins College in Roanoke, VA, and then worked for the phone company for several years. She met Princeton graduate Augustus “Bob” Frick at her home church in Montclair. He fell in love with her at first sight, and the two were married in April 1942. Shortly afterward, Bob enlisted in the Navy and served in the South Pacific. During World War II, Jeanne shared an apartment in San Francisco with several other Navy wives. Jeanne’s brother William served in the Army in Europe. Bob returned, but unfortunately William was killed in action just before the war ended. Both men were awarded the Purple Heart. After the war, Jeanne and Bob lived in Cedar Grove, then Verona, and then Montclair, where they raised three children. Jeanne was an amazing wife, mother, and grandmother, always putting the needs of her family and friends before her own. She stayed active with the church through the years and also enjoyed reading, gardening, volunteering with the Red Cross, and playing golf. She and Bob retired to Cape Cod in 1979, where they enjoyed 24 wonderful years together. They loved having their children and grandchildren come for summer visits. In 2003 Bob passed away, and in 2007 Jeanne relocated to Franciscan Oaks in Denville, NJ. She was closer to her family and enjoyed the activities and new friends she made. Predeceased by her husband, Jeanne leaves a wealth of happy memories to her children Nancy Brunone (and husband Dominic), Larry (and his wife Janet), and Russell (and his wife Joan); her grandchildren Tricia, Peter, Sandra, Andrew, Michael, Jeffrey, and Zachary; and 13 great-grandchildren, as well as many more loving relatives, friends, and caretakers. She will be much missed.
