Elfrieda "Elfie" H. Kunzel, 80, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 9, 2015 at Compassionate Care Hospice in Dover. Born in Vienna, Austria, Elfrieda moved to the US in 1941 to Maspeth Queens, NY. As a junior in High School she moved to Teaneck, NJ where she met and married her high school sweet heart. She attended the Berkeley Secretarial school in Manhattan and worked as a legal secretary until she became a mom and stayed at home to raise her family. While at home, she became very active in the Organization of Mothers of Twins where she served as the National President for two years. She worked for the Citizen Newspaper in Denville and then on to the Daily Record. She also worked at the New Jersey Monthly magazine where she was the Director of Special Projects. She was instrumental in beginning the NJ Pride awards which honors accomplished people from NJ. Elfie and her husband shared a great passion for traveling and enjoyed seeing many parts of the world. What defined her life mostly was being with her family and friends. She was a wonderful grandmother to her 11 grandchildren and enjoyed exposing them to culture taking them to museums and musicals and other adventures. She is predeceased by her brother, Daniel Seyss and her parents Otto and Berta (Kasper) Seyss, left to keep her legacy alive is her beloved husband of 60 years, Walter O. Kunzel; her loving children, Walter D. (Lisa) Kunzel of Parsippany, Robert G. (Phyllis) Kunzel of Morristown, Susan A. (Dennis) Carroll of Denville, and Kristina L. (Robert) Ambrosino of Sparta; her cherished grandchildren, Dennis, Kevin, Andrew, Peter, Benjamin, Elyse, Brian, Steven, Erika, Lauren and Robbie; and three great-grandchildren Ella, Zoe and Sophie. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 14th at 11:00 am at King of Kings Lutheran Church, 145 Route 46 Mountain Lakes, NJ 07046. Family and friends may visit with the family from 9:30 – 11:00 am at the Church. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations can be made in Elfie's memory to Compassionate Care, 400 Blackwell St., Dover, NJ 07801. Please leave a condolence for her family.
