Obituary of Bernadette Penney

It is with heavy hearts that we must announce that Bernadett "Bernie" Penney, 83, of Bridgewater, NJ, passed away on January 29th, 2024. Bernie was born on September 1, 1940, in Brooklyn, New York. Bernadette was predeceased by her two sons, William Joseph Penney Jr. and Christian Michael Penney. Bernie was a loving wife to her husband William Joseph Penney and a devoted mother to her daughter Melissa Delaney and son-in-law Michael Delaney, as well as her daughter-in-law Sherryll Penney. She was also a proud grandmother to her three grandsons, Christian Penney Jr., Michael Delaney Jr, and Kyle Delaney. She was the beloved sister of Cecilia Markle, Barbara Barricella, William, Harry, and John Kelly. Bernie had a vibrant personality and was known for her sense of humor, outgoing nature, and kind spirit. Through her connection with God she embodied strength and perseverance when faced with losing her two sons, William and Christian Penney. Bernie found joy in gardening, playing Mahjong with close friends, and cherished spending time with her grandchildren, nieces and nephews, especially at family get togethers. In her professional life, Bernie worked as a cosmetologist at Epstein’s Department Store and later as a quality control analyst at Champion Mortgage. She was dedicated to her craft and made a significant impact in her respective roles. Bernie’s educational journey began at Holy Family Elementary School in Brooklyn, NY, and she later attended Prospect Heights High School in Brooklyn, NY.

A Memorial Mass for Bernie Penney will be held on Saturday, February 3 rd , 2024 at 1 PM at St. Mary’s Church of Denville. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Duke University Hospital Cancer Center. Donations can be made via Duke Cancer Institute.

Bernie Penney will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. Her memory will forever be cherished, and her legacy of love and kindness will live on.
