Jule Gimbel

Obituary of Jule Ann Gimbel

Please share a memory of Jule to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that we must announce the passing of Jule Ann Gimbel. Jule lived a full 91 years of life before being called home to the Lord on December 9th, 2023.

Jule was born to Michael and Sarah Killian in Pittston, Pennsylvania. She was raised there alongside her siblings Mickey and Mary Jane. Jule eventually met the love of her life, Alfred Gimbel, and the couple began their life together. They raised 4 beautiful children and then were blessed with an abundance of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jule was a woman who always put her family first and she loved all of them dearly. She served as a dietary aide for St Clare’s Hospital of Denville and worked tirelessly to ensure that her whole family was provided for. Jule had a very positive outlook on life and was always kind compassionate to those around her.

When she wasn’t working, Jule was a member of many things in Denville. She enjoyed her 20 years as a member of the Monday group of Senior Citizens who would meet to catch up and play bingo. She also spent over 14 years volunteering at the Bargain Barn where she helped beautiful items find new homes. Jule was also a devout Catholic and was a member of St. Mary’s Parish of Denville. With all of her involvement in the town, Jule sure made an impact on the lives of so many, and her loss will be keenly felt by all who knew her.

Though we are saddened by her passing, we take comfort in knowing that she is at peace, reunited with those who came before her; her beloved husband, Alfred R. Gimbel, her parents, Michael and Sarah, and her siblings, Mickey and Mary Jane. It is now that we look to those she leaves behind to carry on her memory of kindness and care. Jule is survived by her children, Lillian Lightbody and her husband Douglas, Gloria Byrne and her husband Thomas, Robert Gimbel and his wife Susan, Kathleen Bowan and her husband William, her grandchildren, Brian Lightbody, Christine Ross, Thomas Byrne, Stephen Byrne, Nicole Hennessey, William Bowan, her great grandchildren, Rumi, Liam, Cayden, Daniel, Molly, Joseph, Scarlett, Rose, as well as a wealth of extended family, friends, and neighbors who will all remember her fondly.

If you would like to contribute to Jule’s memory in your own way, please consider making a charitable contribution to either St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or The Alzheimer’s Association. Memorial Donations can be made via inmemof.org.

A public visitation for Jule will be held on Thursday, December 14th from 9 to 10 AM, at St. Mary’s Church, 15 Myers Ave, Denville. A Mass of Christian Burial will also take place there beginning at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Denville Cemetery at 11:15 AM. All are welcome to come and celebrate the life of this wonderful woman, and please leave a condolence, share a memory, or light a candle to continue to let Jule’s light shine!
