Obituary of Susan Filauro

Susan Filauro (Hunt), 72, of Denville, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2026.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and community leader, Sue dedicated much of her life to enriching the town she called home.

Born Susan Hunt on December 6, 1953, Sue grew up in Rensselaer, New York, where she was raised by her parents, the late Donald and Mary (Garavelli) Hunt.

After completing her education at Potsdam University in NY, she launched an early career in New York City, working within the dynamic fields of the fashion and technology industries.

Sue eventually settled in Denville, New Jersey, to raise her family. Over the decades, her deep love for her neighbors and town blossomed into an extraordinary legacy of community service. She gave her time and leadership generously, serving as the Lakeview School PTA President and as the Chairman of the Denville Planning Board along with various other volunteer community services.

Passionate about local history, Sue also championed historic preservation as the Vice President of the Ayres Knuth Farm Foundation, helping to safeguard Denville's rich heritage for future generations.

Sue’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her beloved husband, Alan Filauro; her three children, Andrew Filauro, Elaina McEwan, and Alex Filauro; and her six cherished grandchildren, Clara and John Filauro, Jackson, Madeline, and Wesley McEwan, and Rafael Filauro.

She is also survived by her siblings, Michael, James, Timothy, and Jeannie. Sue was predeceased by her parents, Donald and Mary Hunt, and her sisters, Donna Sarinelli and Karen David.

 A memorial service to celebrate Sue’s life will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Church 15 Myers Avenue Denville, NJ 07834.
