Obituary of Janet D'Elia

Janet D’Elia, a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, lived 68 years filled with love, friendship, and adventure. She was taken from us too soon on August 20, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of beautiful memories and countless people who will forever cherish her.

Janet was born to Peter and Dorothy D’Elia in Queens, New York, on June 17, 1958. She was raised in Maspeth alongside her beloved sister, Nancy, and graduated from Grover Cleveland High School in 1976. Janet valued education and chose to continue her studies at St. John’s University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree.

Janet spent a portion of her life living in Connecticut, where she was blessed with the birth of her son, Peter. She later made her home in New Jersey, where she devoted herself to caring for her mother, Dorothy. Family was always deeply important to Janet, and she gave her love and time generously to those closest to her.

Janet had a lifelong passion for the arts and loved nothing more than settling in for a good movie or television show. Films such as, “Now, Voyager,” “The Godfather,” “Die Hard,” and the original “Star Trek” films were just a few of her all-time favorites, as were TV shows including “NYPD Blue,” “Blue Bloods,” “Yellowstone,” and many more.  Her love of film and TV extended beyond the screen and often became an inspired catalyst for travel. She visited Yellowstone in Montana, andmade her way to Las Vegas to experience The Wizard of Oz at the Sphere earlier this year. For Janet, these adventures were a way to turn the stories she loved into memories of her own.

Above all, Janet was a devoted and loyal friend through and through. She treasured the friendships she made throughout her life, many of which spanned decades. No matter how much time or distance separated her from a friend, Janet made the effort to stay connected, keeping in touch with people she had met in all different chapters of her life. Her friendships were a testament to the genuine care she had for others and the lasting impression she left on those around her.

Janet loved her family deeply and treasured the people who were fortunate enough to share in her life. She will be remembered for her loyalty, her warm heart, her love of the arts and travel, and the meaningful connections she formed with so many people.

Though Janet was taken from us far too soon, the love she gave and the memories she created will endure. She now leaves behind her family, her son, Peter, her sister, Nancy Fabrizio, and her husband, Dominick, her nephew, Dan Fabrizio and his wife, Rachel, her great niece, Emilia “Emmy”, her dear friend Mike, as well as a wealth of extended family and friends who will remember her fondly.

Hours of memorial visitation for Janet will be held on Tuesday, August 25, from 3 to 7 PM at Norman Dean Home for Services, with a vigil service to begin at 6:30 PM. All are welcome to join in celebrating the life of this incredible woman!
