Obituary of John D. Marra

John D. Marra, a longtime resident of Denville, passed away on July 27, 2026, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, at the age of 64.

Born on October 23, 1961, in Denville, John was the beloved son of Priscilla and John R. Marra. He was raised in the town he would proudly call home throughout his life, alongside his parents and his sister, Kathy. John graduated from Morris Knolls High School and, not long afterward, began a career with Verizon, where he dedicated more than 20 years to being a 411 operator. His strong work ethic, reliability, and quiet dedication made him a valued employee throughout his career.

John found happiness in life's simple pleasures. He loved spending peaceful days freshwater fishing on calm lakes, enjoying the tranquility that came with being out on the water. Family vacations to Long Beach Island were among his favorite memories, where he could often be found relaxing by the ocean and soaking in the sea breeze.

A lifelong enthusiast of astronomy, John possessed an impressive knowledge of the night sky. On clear evenings, he delighted in pointing out constellations and sharing the stories and science behind the stars with anyone willing to listen. His curiosity about the universe reflected his thoughtful nature and appreciation for the wonders of the world around him.

John also had a deep love for animals and found great comfort in the companionship of his pets over the years. Their loyal presence brought him immense joy and reflected the gentle, caring spirit he shared with those closest to him.

John will be remembered for his quiet kindness, his inquisitive mind, and his appreciation for the beauty found in both nature and the night sky. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. John is survived by his loving sister, Kathy Devonmille and her husband Jim, his niece, Jessica Devonmille, as well as a wealth of extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Priscilla Marra, and his sister, Susan Marra.
