Obituary of Najah Halabi

Najah Halabi, a loving mother and grandmother, devoted sister, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2026, at the age of 77.

Born on May 5, 1949, in Beirut, Lebanon, Najah was the beloved daughter of Adel and Hadiya Maher. She was raised alongside her brothers, Issam and Malek, in the city she proudly called home before immigrating to the United States in 1974.

Najah made her home in New Jersey, where she lived for over 50 years and built a life centered on love, hard work, and family. There she welcomed her beloved daughter, Joni. Later in life, she was promoted to “Teta”, with the birth of her granddaughter, Amelia. Family meant everything to Najah, and her daughter and granddaughter remained the greatest joys of her life.

Professionally, Najah served for many years in the retail industry, initially as a sales representative at JCPenney in the Rockaway Townsquare Mall. She later became a dedicated and well-respected manager with the Macy's team, also in Rockaway. There she earned the “Manager of the Year” title for several years. Najah was the Group Sales Manager of Fine and Fashion Jewelry when she retired in 2014. She took great pride in her work, and her warm personality and attention to detail made her a favorite among those who knew her.

Outside of work, Najah found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid reader who could often be found immersed in a good book. She also had a creative spirit and loved expressing herself through textile arts and cooking. She was especially famous for her fattoush and spinach pies. Exceptionally organized by nature, Najah kept a welcoming home and always seemed to have a thoughtful and immaculately detailed plan for whatever life brought her way.

Perhaps what those closest to her will remember most was Najah's remarkable gift for storytelling. She had a unique gift for sharing captivating stories of her history and life experiences. Her expressive nature and unforgettable stories brought laughter, wonder, and joy to family gatherings, leaving lasting memories that will be treasured for years to come.

Najah's warmth, unwavering love for her family, and vibrant personality touched the lives of everyone who knew her. Though she will be deeply missed, the stories she shared, the traditions she created, and the love she gave so freely will continue to live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Najah is survived by her beloved daughter, Joni Halabi, and her cherished granddaughter, Amelia Halabi. She now joins those who passed before her, including her parents, Adel Maher and Hadiya Abu Dihen, and her brothers, Issam and Malek Maher.

Hours of public visitation for Najah are scheduled for 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Norman Dean Home for Services of Denville. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, July 25, 2026, followed by a graveside service at Marcella Union Cemetery, 23 Timberbrook Trail, Rockaway, NJ.
