Obituary of Kenneth S. Sohn

Please share a memory of Kenneth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Kenneth S. (Kyu Suk) Sohn, 92, of Parsippany, NJ passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026, surrounded by his family. He leaves behind a legacy of devotion, intellect, kindness, and unwavering love for those closest to him.

Born in Seoul, Korea, Kenneth, he attended Seoul National University after the Korean War. He emigrated to the United States to complete college at Uppsala College in NJ. He went on to obtain his Masters and PhD in Electrical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology, where he became an instructor there. A Professor in the Electrical and Computer Science Department at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) for more than 50 years, he was a dedicated teacher and mentor to countless undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. He took great pride in helping to shape future generations of engineers and loved talking with colleagues and staff at NJIT.

Kenneth is survived by his wife Camellia (Chae Nam) Sohn (née Lee), to whom he was married for more than 63 years. Devoted and caring, he made sure that Camellia never missed a doctor’s appointment and that a trip to the mall was always a success. Together, they raised two daughters, Regina and Lydia, and welcomed sons-in-law Erik (Regina's husband) and Edward (Lydia's husband) into the family — he was extremely proud of them all. His grandchildren, Gabrielle, Alexander, Edward, and Samantha, were his greatest pride and joy - he loved taking them to the local park, zoo, museums, and spending afternoons playing games with them.

We will all miss “Grandpa”.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Kenneth S. and Camellia Sohn Endowed Scholarship at NJIT or to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.

A public visitation will be held for Kenneth on July 21, 2025, at 9:30 AM, with a funeral service to begin at 10:30 AM at Norman Dean Home for Services of Denville. A graveside service will follow immediately after at Christ the King Cemetery of Franklin Lakes, NJ. All are welcome to come and celebrate the life of this incredible man!
