Obituary of Joanne Marinello Holley

Joanne Marinello Holley passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at St. Clare's Hospital in Denville. She was 81 years old and leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, compassion, and unforgettable memories shared with her family and friends.

Born on a sunny summer day, August 24, 1944, in Newark, New Jersey, Joanne was the beloved daughter of the late Josephine (Roselle) and Joseph Marinello, Jr. She was raised in Newark alongside her devoted brother, Joseph Marinello III, with whom she shared a close and loving bond. Joanne graduated from Bloomfield High School with the Class of 1962 before attending flight attendant school, beginning a career that reflected her adventurous spirit and love of people. For 14 years, Joanne proudly served as a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines, traveling the world and creating lifelong memories. She later dedicated herself to public service, first with the Newark Police Department, where she became one of the department's very first Victim Counselor. Joanne served in that unit and was recognized for her remarkable compassion, empathy, and unwavering commitment to helping others. She worked alongside police officers during some of the city's most difficult moments, offering comfort and hope to victims of crime. Joanne had an especially tender heart for children, and those who worked with her knew that caring for others was not simply her job—it was her calling. She continued her career with the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office before joining the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, where she retired as an Administrative Assistant.

Joanne's beautiful smile was one of her greatest gifts. It lit every room she entered and continued to do so regardless of life's circumstances. She embraced each day with optimism, grace, and fearlessness. She cherished time with family and friends, loved traveling, and found great joy in sharing meals with those she loved. A wonderful hostess and exceptional Italian cook, Joanne delighted in bringing people together around her table. Chocolate was always her favorite indulgence, and dessert was often the highlight of any meal. She remained active throughout her life through yoga and Pilates, reflecting the strength, independence, and vitality that defined her. Above all, Joanne will be remembered as a woman of extraordinary kindness, generosity, courage, and unwavering compassion. Her warmth, infectious smile, and selfless heart left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Joanne was predeceased by her parents, Josephine and Joseph Marinello, Jr., and her beloved brother, Joseph Marinello III. She is lovingly remembered by her devoted companion of more than 20 years, Wayne Fisher; her cherished nephews, Joseph (Lisajoy) Marinello IV, Patrick Marinello, and John Paul (Melissa) Marinello, Sr.; her treasured great-nieces and great-nephews, Adelina, Isabelle, Joseph Marinello V, Jack, John Paul Marinello, Jr., and Justin; Wayne's family, Tim (Mary) Fisher and their daughter, Madison; her beloved cousins, Suzanne Carr, Linda Tortoriello, and Tara (Glen) Lovrich; as well as many dear cousins and friends whose lives were enriched by her love and friendship.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Joanne's life on Thursday, July 9, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Church, 15 Myers Avenue, Denville. Interment will immediately follow at Denville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. The family invites those who knew Joanne to leave a condolence, share a favorite memory, or perform a simple act of kindness in her honor. Though she is no longer with us, her fearless spirit, generous heart, and radiant smile will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know and love her.
