Obituary of David F. Sullivan
David F. Sullivan passed away on Monday, June 22, 2026 at Hackensack Meridian Health Hackensack University Medical Center. He shared 67 years of unconditional love, infectious laughter, and unforgettable memories with family and friends.
He was born on a sunny day in June 1959 to Raymond F. Sullivan and the late Lena Mae (Assante) Sullivan. He grew up in Boonton, NJ making lasting memories with his sister, Carolann. David graduated from Boonton High School, Class of 1977. While in high school, he excelled on the swim team and playing golf, which he continued through college. David earned his bachelor’s degree in finance from Eastern New Mexico University. He was a hard worker, always holding a great job, most notably as a commodities broker, where he met his best friend, Carl. David later moved to real estate, retiring from Jordan Baris Realty as a talented Real Estate Agent.
He was a member of the Mount Tabor Golf & Country Club and the Morris County Striders Running Club. David was an avid runner and a passionate golfer, having participated in the New York City Marathon in 1989 and many golf tournaments, including at the Jersey Shore and the annual Thanksgiving tournament. He was a sports enthusiast; especially enjoying the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies.
Above anything else, David was loyal, caring, genuine, and a phenomenal human with an old soul. His faith was very important to him and for many years was a weekend Lector at St. Catherine’s Church in Mountain Lakes. He treasured his family and became a natural caregiver when someone needed it. He wrote thank you cards to friends and nurses and met a group of friends at McDonald’s once a week to catch up on life. When his body would no longer allow him to run, he organized fundraisers with the Sunshine Foundation to raise money for children and even traveled to Ocean City and Philadelphia to facilitate them.
Although we are deeply saddened by his passing, we take comfort in knowing that he is now reunited with his Mom, Lena Mae Sullivan. He leaves only joyful memories to his beloved father, Raymond F. Sullivan; his cherished sister and brother-in-law, Carolann and Bob Steere; his loving aunt, Patricia Miller; and many dear friends.
Everyone is welcome to celebrate David’s life on Sunday, June 28th from 12 – 3 pm with Funeral Service beginning at 2:30 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville. Memorial Donations are being accepted in David’s memory to either the Hackensack Meridian Health Foundation via this link or the American Kidney Fund via this link.
