Obituary of Albert Ritorto

Albert “Al” Ritorto, 76, passed away on June 17, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of laughter, unforgettable stories, and cherished memories with the family and friends who meant so much to him.

Born on August 4, 1949, in East Orange, New Jersey, Al was the son of Jack and Rose Ritorto. He was raised in East Orange alongside his beloved sister, Donna, and graduated from East Orange High School. Al possessed a strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit from an early age. Throughout his life, he wore many hats professionally, including owning and operating a chain of convenience stores in his hometown. He later spent many years working as a promoter for numerous police departments, including the South Plainfield Police Department, where he formed many lasting friendships and earned the respect of those he worked alongside.

Al knew how to enjoy life and rarely passed up an opportunity for a good time. He was a familiar face at the Meadowlands Racetrack, where he loved watching the horses thunder down the track and trying his luck picking a winner. His adventures often took him to casinos from Atlantic City to the Pocono Mountains, places where he enjoyed the excitement of the game and, more importantly, the company of friends and family. Whether sharing a joke, telling a story, or simply enjoying the moment, Al had a gift for bringing laughter wherever he went.

While he enjoyed life's many pleasures, nothing was more important to Al than his family. He shared an especially close bond with his sister, Donna, and treasured the time they spent together throughout the years. He was a proud and devoted uncle to his nephew, Jack, and found immeasurable joy in being a part of the life of his great-nephew and godson, Michael Safkan. Michael held a uniquely special place in Al’s heart, and there was nothing Al would not have done for him. Their bond was built on love, loyalty, and countless memories that will be treasured forever.

Al will be remembered for his generous heart, his sense of humor, his love of family, and his ability to make every gathering a little brighter. Though he will be deeply missed, we know that his memory will live on through those he leaves behind. Al is survived by his sister, Donna Safkan, nee Ritorto, and her significant other, Pete Cuozzo, his great-nephew and godson, Michael Safkan, as well as a wealth of friends and colleagues who will remember him fondly. Al is now reunited with those who passed before him; his nephew, Jack Safkan, and his parents, Jack and Rose Ritorto.

Hours of public visitation for Al will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, from 4 to 8 PM at Norman Dean Home for Services of Denville, with a funeral service to be held at 7:15 PM. All are welcome to come and celebrate the life of this incredible man!
