Obituary of Jack Safkan

Please share a memory of Jack to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Jack A. Safkan passed away suddenly in the comfort of his home on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. He had shared 44 years of unconditional love, infectious laughter, and unforgettable memories with family and friends, although he was taken too soon.

Born in Glen Ridge, NJ to Donna (Ritorto) and the late Michael Safkan, Jack lived in Parsippany before settling to Rockaway Township for the past 40 years. He graduated from Morris Knolls High School in 1999. Jack attended County College of Morris before earning his Bachelor’s Degree from Caldwell College, now known as Caldwell University. He made a successful career for himself as a Tax Consultant working first for the IRS and then Verizon in Basking Ridge. His favorite job was being a Dad; he adored his son, Michael. They did everything together, starting from when he was a child and Jack was the coach for the Rockaway Township Basketball and Soccer teams, continuing to currently playing video games every night, and everything in between. Jack was a master at any Madden game and MLB The Show on his PlayStation 5. He loved watching sports with his family, too ~ he loved the NY Knicks, NY Yankees, NY Rangers, and Dallas Cowboys! Jack was also a talented bowler and a member of Professional Bowlers Association. He played all over but mostly at Rockaway Lanes. Above anything else, his family was his pride and joy. He was the greatest dad, son, nephew, and friend and will be sorely missed.

Although we are deeply saddened by his passing, we take comfort in knowing that he is now reunited with his father, Michael and his grandmother, Rose Ritorto. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his beloved family: his treasured son, Michael Safkan; his cherished mom, Donna Safkan and her significant other Pete Cuozzo; his cherished and loved uncle, Al Ritorto; Michael’s mother, Lisa; his faithful pup, Memie; his long time best friend, Shawn Berhman and so many wonderful loving friends and family.
