Obituary of Anne Marie Marihugh

Please share a memory of Anne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Anne Marihugh, a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026, just one day shy of her 94th birthday, at The Oaks Health Care Center in Denville, NJ. Anne was born on May 20, 1932, in Albany, NY, to Royal and Annmarie Ryan, who instilled in her the values of kindness, generosity, and resilience.

Anne's life was a tapestry of love and dedication. She grew up in a close-knit family alongside her sisters Grace and Janet, who predeceased her, leaving Anne with cherished memories of their sisterly bond. Anne's educational journey led her to the College of St. Rose in Albany, NY, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree. It was during her college years that she met the love of her life, David Hathorne Marihugh. Their love story was one of patience and commitment, as David served our country in the United States Army following the Korean War. On July 21, 1956, Anne and David were united in marriage, a partnership that would blossom into a lifelong adventure.

The young couple initially resided in a charming farmhouse in Germany while David completed his military service, before settling in Cresskill, NJ, to build a life filled with family and love. Anne and David were blessed with two children, Carol Piper and David H. Marihugh, Jr., who, along with their spouses Timothy and Susan, were the pride and joy of Anne's life.

Professionally, Anne found her calling as a teacher in Cresskill, NJ, where she devoted many years to nurturing young minds until her retirement in 1992. Her passion for education and her unwavering patience left a lasting legacy on countless students.

Anne's heart was always open to her family, whom she cherished deeply. Her grandchildren, Megan Incantalupo, David H. Marihugh III, Rory Piper, Emily Volk, and Harrison Piper, along with their spouses Joseph, Emily, Olivia, Rob, and Maggie, were the lights of her life. Anne's joy multiplied with the arrival of her great-grandchildren, Ava and Nina Incantalupo, Teddy Marihugh, Robert and Abigail Volk, and Rosie Piper, each of whom brought a special twinkle to her eye.

In addition to her devotion to family, Anne had a fondness for shopping, a pastime that allowed her to spoil her loved ones with thoughtful gifts and tokens of her affection. Her generous spirit and infectious laughter will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Anne's life will be celebrated in a private ceremony, honoring her wishes for an intimate gathering of those she held dear. Her legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

Anne Marihugh will be dearly missed, but her memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration to those whose lives she touched. Please leave a condolence, light a candle, and share your favorite memory of Anne here to continue to celebrate the life she shared with us.
