Dolores McCartan, 97 (née Mascio), from New Milford & Dumont  was born in the Bronx on January 26, 1929 to Rose (née Gerity) and Anthony Mascio. She was the youngest of 8 children all of whom predeceased her. 

 

Dolores moved to New Milford NJ in 1957 and raised her large family there.  She retired to Venice FL in 1985 but returned to Dumont in 2005. 

 

Her six children Jimmy Killilea (Sammy), Ann Subrizi, Tommy McCartan (Denise), Theresa Schwarz, Eddie McCartan, and Patty Herbert (Bruce) will miss her.  She has 14 grandchildren Christopher(Stephanie), Travis, Dennis(Anna), Joseph(Melissa), Danielle, TJ, Shannon(Kris), Daniel(Tiffany), Ashley(Eddie), EJ, Lauren, Matthew and Jaclyn (Rusty).  There are 13 great-grandchildren James, Sophia, Nora, Luca, Emma, Payton, Nathan, Maverick, Nixon,  Iyla, Jaxon, Riley and Finn.  She is pre-deceased by husbands James Killilea (1955) and Hugh John McCartan (1995), daughter-in-law Irene McCartan, sons-in-law Dennis Subrizi and Joel Schwarz and grandson, George. 

 

Dolores enjoyed bingo and trips to Atlantic City to play the slots.  She knitted baby sweaters for everyone to celebrate newborns.  Her cooking is legendary and she made sure you never left hungry and always with a meal to put in the freezer.  The family would like to thank the staff at Lincoln Park Care Center/The Renaissance and the Villa for their care and compassion during her long stay.
