Obituary of Sandra May Vandermark

Please share a memory of Sandra to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Sandra May Vandermark passed away peacefully at home on April 5, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on June 24, 1942, Sandra lived a life filled with love, warmth, and deep devotion to the people who meant the most to her.

Above all else, Sandra was a family woman. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she built her life around caring for others and making her house a true home. She shared a beautiful life with her husband, Dennis, the love of her life, until his passing in 2018. Together, they created a lifetime of memories centered on family, laughter, and togetherness.

Sandra found happiness in the simple, meaningful moments. She was an avid reader who always enjoyed getting lost in a good book. She had a true gift for gardening and took pride in her flowers and plants, especially her beloved primroses and perennials, which she cared for with patience and love.

Some of Sandra’s happiest memories were made camping with Dennis in Sussex County. With their camper packed and ready, they would head off with friends and their children, creating traditions that will never be forgotten. She and Dennis also shared a love for travel and treasured the many cruises they were able to enjoy together.

Her home was a place where everyone felt welcome. Sandra loved hosting family and friends for barbecues, where there was always plenty of food, laughter, and time spent together by the pool. Those gatherings reflected who she was at her core—someone who brought people together and made everyone feel like they belonged.

Sandra was a constant source of love and support for her children and grandchildren. She never missed a game, always cheering from the sidelines with pride. She was deeply involved in their lives, coaching softball and serving as a Girl Scout leader for her daughters, giving her time, energy, and heart so freely.

She is survived by her children, Linda (Butch) Szollosy, Carrie (Mike) Hayes, and John (Michele) Vandermark; her brother Robert (Paula) Vincent; her grandchildren Jennifer (Jamie), Dennis (Ana), Michael (Kelly), Melissa (Chase), CJ (Nicole), Madison, Amelia, Sophia, and Faith; and her great-grandchildren Jillian, James, Jackson, Mikey, Hunter, Colton, Tyson, Adalynn, Carson, and Vivienne. She also leaves behind her beloved cat, Lucy, along with many extended family members, dear friends, and neighbors. Sandra was predeceased by her husband, Dennis J. Vandermark, and her sister, Patricia Whitnour.

To know Sandra was to feel loved. Her kindness, her steady presence, and the way she showed up for the people in her life will never be forgotten. While her family’s hearts are heavy, they find comfort in the many memories she leaves behind memories filled with love, laughter, and a life well lived.
