Obituary of Florence Estelle Lodato
Florence Estelle Lodato passed away peacefully in Succasunna, New Jersey, after living a remarkable 102 beautiful years. Her long life was defined by love, family, kindness, and a joyful spirit that touched everyone who knew her.
Florence was born on May 14, 1923, to Robert and Estelle Armstrong in Pearl River, New York. She spent her early years growing up in Chicago alongside her brother, Robert. From a young age, Florence carried with her a warmth and kindness that would become the hallmark of her life.
As a young woman, Florence moved to New York City, where she worked for many years as a dedicated secretary with General Motors. During this time, she met and married the love of her life, Peter Lodato. Together they built a life rooted in love, compassion, and devotion to family. They eventually settled in Denville, New Jersey, where they raised their three children and created a home filled with laughter and care.
Florence’s greatest joy came from her family. She was thrilled to become a grandmother and later a great-grandmother, embracing every moment she could spend with them. In their younger years, she lovingly helped care for them, often babysitting and lending a helping hand. As they grew older, she delighted in simple adventures together—afternoons at the park, shopping trips, and time spent talking and laughing. These moments became cherished memories for generations of her family.
Florence also had a deep love for animals. Over the years, she welcomed many beloved companions into her home, including dogs, cats, and even birds. Her nurturing spirit extended to every living thing, and her home was always a place of comfort and care.
Throughout her life, Florence carried herself with grace and compassion. She brought a gentle, calming presence wherever she went and was rarely seen without a warm smile. Her joyful demeanor earned her the affectionate nickname “Joy,” a name that perfectly reflected the happiness she shared with those around her.
Florence’s legacy lives on through the family she loved so dearly and the countless lives she brightened with her kindness. Florence is survived by her children, Nancy Balogh, Peter Lodato and his wife Ellen, Robert Lodato, her grandchildren, Erin, Kari (Matt), Jenna (Patrick), Chad (Caitlyn), Daniel (Rachel), Peter (Laura), her great grandchildren, Troy, Finn, Ciara, Elin, Sorren, Charlie, Sam, Lana, as well as many friends who will remember her fondly. Florence now joins those who passed before her; her husband, Peter Lodato, her brother, Robert Armstrong, and her parents, Robert and Estelle Armstrong.
