Obituary of Charles Michael Goldy

Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Charles Michael Goldy, affectionately known as Charlie, passed away peacefully at the age of 72 at his home in Dover, New Jersey.

Charlie was born on November 4, 1953, to William and Ellen Goldy. One of ten children, he grew up in Newark, New Jersey, surrounded by a large and lively family. The family moved to Rutherford, New Jersey where he met many lifelong friends. Charlie proudly answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army. His time in the military was something he held close to his heart, and his family will always be grateful for his service and dedication.

After returning home, Charlie worked for the Town of Rutherford and later became a machinist. He worked for Stryker Howmedica Osteonics making knee and hip replacements. Charlie then turned his love of the outdoors into a lifelong career. In 1981, he founded his own company with his brother-in-law, Lawnboys Landscaping, where he spent more than 30 years providing dependable and high-quality service to his many clients. Known for his hard work and attention to detail, Charlie built strong relationships with those he worked for and took great pride in every job he completed. Before he retired, he went on to work in the forestry division of JCP&L.

In May of 1997, Charlie married the love of his life, Deborah, and together they made their home in Rockaway, New Jersey. Their marriage was filled with love, laughter, and partnership. Together they welcomed two beautiful daughters, Amanda and Brianna, who became the center of Charlie’s world. He cherished his girls deeply and was endlessly proud of the women they grew to become.

Some of the family’s most treasured memories were made during their vacations together. Whether visiting the Outer Banks, spending summers down the shore in Wildwood, or enjoying their beloved camping trips to Otter Lake, those moments brought Charlie great joy and created lasting memories for the whole family.

Charlie was a lifelong New York sports fan who loved cheering on his favorite teams. He enjoyed attending Mets and Giants games, sharing the excitement with fellow fans. Around the house, Charlie was known as the family handyman. He spent much of his time fixing things, working on projects, and helping neighbors with odd jobs whenever they needed a hand.

Charlie will be remembered as a kind, generous, and hardworking man. He was always the loudest one in the room with his infectious laugh. He was the type of person who would give you the shirt off his back without hesitation. His warm heart, strong work ethic, and deep love for his family will never be forgotten.

Charlie’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His family will\ continue to carry forward the lessons he taught them, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave so freely. Charlie is survived by his beloved wife, Deborah Goldy, his daughters, Amanda and Brianna, his siblings, Collette Cote (the late Michael), June Goldy, Emilie Goldy, his siblings in law, Terri Kuhn (Robert), Megan Eggleton (David), Ellen Goldy (the late William), Cheryl Goldy (the late Robert), his nieces and nephews Sean, Riley, Harper, Nykky, Billy, Aimee, Lauren, Louie, and Gabby, as well as many other extended family members and friends. Charlie is now reunited with those who passed before him; his parents, William and Ellen Goldy, his siblings, William Goldy, Robert Goldy, Michael Goldy, Patrick Goldy, Suzanne Petronio (Louis), and Christine Goldy.

If you would like to contribute to Charlie’s memory in your own way, please consider making a charitable contribution to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the National Down Syndrome Society

Hours of memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 10, from 3 to 7 PM at Norman Dean home for Services, with a funeral service and military honors to be held at 6 PM. Please leave a condolence, share a memory, or light a candle to continue to let Charlie’s light shine!

There will be a Celebration of Life to honor Charlie at a later date.
