Obituary of Thomas John Galante, Jr.
Thomas John Galante, Jr., 92, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of devotion to his family, his country, and the simple joys of life.
Born on June 21, 1933, in Newark, New Jersey, Thomas was the beloved son of Thomas and Susan Galante. He was raised in Belleville alongside his siblings and graduated from Belleville High School. It was there, during his formative years, that he met the love of his life, Joan. Shortly after graduation, the two were married, beginning a lifelong partnership defined by love, resilience, and shared dedication.
Eager to serve his country, Thomas enlisted in the United States Marines during the Korean War. Although an injury cut his time in service short, his willingness to serve and his steadfast commitment to his country remained a point of pride throughout his life.
Upon returning home, Thomas and Joan purchased their first home in Pompton Lakes, where they began raising their beloved son, Edward. After eight happy years there, the family returned to Belleville before eventually settling in Fredon Township later in life.
Thomas built a respected career as an electronics engineer, dedicating many years to RFL Industries in Boonton Township. His expertise and work ethic were unmatched, and even after retiring, he continued contributing his knowledge and skills, a testament to both his passion and his professionalism.
Outside of work, Thomas found joy in the outdoors, whether taking scenic walks or simply soaking up the warmth of a summer day. He was an avid music lover with a cherished record collection featuring classic country artists. He also had a secret sweet tooth and could rarely resist a good Hershey’s bar. Having grown up in the wake of the Great Depression and lived through decades of historic events, Thomas made it a priority to stay informed about the world, faithfully keeping up with the news throughout his life.
Above all, Thomas was a devoted family man. He was overjoyed to become a grandfather to Sami and Jonathan, and he treasured every moment spent with them. From watching favorite movies and trips to Toys-R-Us to magical days at the Land of Make Believe in Hope, New Jersey, he created lasting memories his grandchildren will carry forever. One of their most cherished traditions was coloring together. Even after Sami and Jonathan outgrew their coloring books, Thomas continued the hobby himself, spending hours carefully completing intricate scenes of sailing ships and lighthouses; a quiet reflection of his patience and artistic spirit.
Thomas will be remembered for his service to his country, his dedication to his work, his love of nature and music, his playful sense of humor, and, most importantly, his unwavering devotion to his family. His life was one of commitment, resilience, and deep love, and he will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Thomas is survived by his son, Edward Galante and his wife Lynn, his grandchildren, Samantha and Jonathan Galante, as well as many extended family members, friends, and colleagues. Thomas is now reunited with those who passed before him; his beloved wife, Joan Lelia Galante, his son, Frank William Galante, his siblings, Connie Peluso, Frank Galante, Helen DeStefano, Dolores Brunner, and his parents, Thomas Galante, Sr. and Susan Galante (Nee Biondi).
Hours of public visitation for Thomas will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2026, from 12 to 4 PM at Norman Dean Home for Services. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 2, 2026, at 11 AM at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Ave, Denville, NJ 07834, followed by a graveside service at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 225 Ridgedale Ave, East Hanover, NJ.
