Obituary of Romelia P Villacampa
Romelia P. Villacampa, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished matriarch of her family, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026, at the age of 91.
Romelia was born on May 31, 1934, in Sancti Spíritus, Cuba, to Amador and Blanca Perez. She was raised there before immigrating to the United States in 1955, beginning a new chapter filled with hope, love, and dedication to family. She reunited with her husband in Brooklyn, New York, where they started their life together and welcomed three wonderful children.
Eventually, Romelia and her family chose to settle in Morristown, New Jersey, a place that would become the heart of countless treasured memories. Her family fondly recalls growing up under her loving care, remembering especially the many walks around town and frequent trips to the park she shared with her children and later her grandchildren. As her family grew, so did her joy in bringing everyone together.
An avid animal lover, Romelia always had a beloved companion by her side, whether it was a cat, a bird, or even fish. Her gentle and nurturing spirit extended to all living things.
A devout Catholic, Romelia held her faith close to her heart throughout her life. She was a devoted member of St. Margaret’s Church in Morristown and attended Mass every Sunday without fail. Her faith provided her with strength, comfort, and guidance, and it shaped the way she lived her life—with kindness, humility, and love.
Romelia leaves behind a legacy of unwavering devotion to her family, deep faith, and a life well lived. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered by all who were blessed to know and love her. Romelia is survived by her children, Herb Villacampa, Ana Nielsen (Doug), Mercedes Duarte (Carlos), her grandchildren, Devon Villacampa, Drew Nielsen, Jenna Nielsen, Brendan Villacampa (Natalie Oster), Jonathan Duarte, Olivia Duarte, as well as her family in Cuba, and many friends and neighbors who will remember her fondly. We take comfort in knowing that Romelia is reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband, Heberto Villacampa.
A Funeral Mass will be held for Romelia on Saturday, January 17th at 10 AM at St. Mary’s Church, 15 Myer’s Ave, Denville, NJ 07834. Please share a memory, leave a condolence, or light a candle to continue to let Romelia’s light shine!
