Obituary of Carol A. Schautz
Carol Schautz, a much-loved wife, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on December 23, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. She faced her illness with the same strength and determination that defined her life.
Carol was born on December 6, 1943, in New York City to the late John and Ida Tuerck. After graduating from Julia Richmond High School in New York City, she began her illustrious financial career at a New York City advertising agency. She later took a position in the accounting department of Wunderman, Ricotta & Kline, a powerhouse division of the historic and globally recognized advertising agency Young & Rubicam. Through her exceptional intellect and unwavering work ethic, she quickly rose through the ranks and was ultimately named Chief Financial Officer of the company and later Chief Operating Officer of Wunderman Worldwide.
Carol was widely admired for her professionalism and integrity. She was known for her tireless dedication, self-discipline, and humility. These qualities earned her the admiration of colleagues throughout her career and remained hallmarks of her character long after she retired.
In 1965, Carol married Donald Schautz, whom she met early in her career. They lived first in New York City, then in Morris Plains, New Jersey, before settling in Denville, New Jersey. Carol was the guiding light of Donald’s life until his passing in 2013. She was also preceded in death last year by her dear friend and sister, Margaret.
Bringing happiness to others was Carol’s greatest joy, and her generosity knew no bounds. Her charitable contributions were widespread, but closest to her heart were donations to local animal shelters. Carol loved all animals and especially cherished her beloved cats, Abby and Zoey, as well as her late cat, Thai.
Carol is survived by numerous nephews and nieces who loved her immeasurably and will forever miss her pragmatic wisdom, unwavering support, and, of course, her culinary delights. She will be remembered for her strength and forthrightness, and her legacy of love and generosity will live on in the many lives she touched.
Family and friends are invited to her interment service at Denville Cemetery, Savage Road, Denville, New Jersey, on Friday, January 9, 2026, at noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carol’s name to St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center at sthuberts.org.
