Obituary of Edwin John Vanderhoof
Edwin John Vanderhoof, 76, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2025 at St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville. Born at Dover General Hospital to the late Florence (Coates) and Farnham Vanderhoof, Ed lived his entire life in the town of Denville which he loved so deeply.
Ed is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Deborah (Barny) Vanderhoof; their three children, Jennifer (Erik) Krogstad, Wendy (Alex) Young, and Edwin James Vanderhoof; five cherished grandchildren: Jonathan, Jessica, Kiersten, Charles, and Joshua; his loving sister-in-law, Janice Vanderhoof; his niece, Stephanie (Jay) Sadineni, their children Evelyn and Elyssa; and his nephew, Timothy Vanderhoof. He joins in Heaven his parents, Aunt Dorothy “Dot” Irene Coates, and his brother, Frederick Vanderhoof.
A proud graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Institute, Ed enjoyed a distinguished 41-year career in aviation maintenance. He spent 31 years as Chief of Aircraft Maintenance at Marotta Controls in Boonton Township and the previous 10 years at Aircraft Radio/Cessna.
Ed gave tirelessly and with honor to the Denville community he called home. For 26 years he served Boy Scout Troop 17 as a dedicated scouter, committee member, and treasurer. He was honored with the God and Country award by both the Boy Scouts of America and Denville Community Church. A lifelong member of Denville Community Methodist Church, Ed faithfully served as an usher for decades. He was a passionate student of local history, an active member of the Morris County Canal Society, and a proud alumnus of the Morris Knolls High School marching band. Together with his wife Deborah, he volunteered countless hours at Morris View Healthcare Center’s Hole-in-the-Wall resident store.
In his quieter moments, Ed found joy in yardwork and gardening, boating on New Jersey’s lakes and waterways, woodworking, and fishing. Above all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose gentle spirit, quick smile, and steadfast kindness touched everyone fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Denville Community Church, 190 Diamond Spring Road, Denville, NJ 07834.
