Obituary of Philip John Wasacz

Please share a memory of Philip to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Philip John Wasacz, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Wednesday, November 26, 2025 at Saint Clare’s Hospital in Dover. He had shared 82 years of devotion, humility, dedication and love.

Born on September 26, 1942, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Philip was one of four sons of Genevieve (Toman) and Louis Wasacz. A proud graduate of Eli Whitney High School, Class of 1960, Philip went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force for four years, stationed in Germany. Upon returning home, he began what became a remarkable 46-year career with NJ Transit in Newark, New Jersey, eventually retiring as Superintendent in 2002.

On November 21, 1981, Philip married his best friend and soulmate, Clare Ann Wos. Together they built a beautiful life rooted in faith, commitment, and unconditional love. A devout Catholic, Philip was a loyal parishioner and usher at St. Cecilia Roman Catholic Church. He was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus Our Lady of the Lakes Council #3359 and the American Legion Post #344 in Rockaway. Known for his strong work ethic and kind spirit, Philip found joy in the simple moments, especially tending to his yard, which he cared for with great pride. Above all, he was a devoted husband, a great father, and a loving grandfather, and his family was the true center of his world.

Although we are deeply saddened by his passing, we take comfort in knowing that Philip is now reunited in Heaven with his grandson Andreas, his parents Genevieve and Louis, his brother Bobby, and his sister-in-law Maria.

Philip’s cherished memory will forever live on in the hearts of his beloved wife, Clare; his loving son, Andreas Wasacz; and his treasured granddaughters, Andrea and Angel Wasacz. He is also survived by his cherished sister, Loretta Walter; his caring brothers, Martin (Joanne) Wasacz and Paul (the late Marie) Wasacz; his dear siblings-in-law, Pricilla Wasacz, Joseph (Kathy) Wos, and Frank (Terry) Wos; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know him.
