Obituary of Florence M. Aluotto

Please share a memory of Florence to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Florence Mildred Aluotto passed away peacefully at home in Denville, NJ, surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, November 25, 2025. For 93 wonderful years, she shared unconditional love, infectious smiles, priceless wisdom, and countless unforgettable memories with all who were blessed to know her.

Born and raised in Hoboken, Florence was the youngest of three children of the late Florence Mildred (Dettmering) and George Lawrence Clisura. Gifted beyond her years, she excelled academically and, at just 19 years old, proudly graduated from the College of Saint Elizabeth (now Saint Elizabeth University) with her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. Known as “Flossy” in her college yearbook, she carried her warmth, wit, and bright spirit with her throughout her life. These qualities made everyone around her feel seen, loved, and welcomed.

Florence began her career at Colgate Palmolive in Jersey City, where she made lifelong friends and first began sharing her gifts for kindness and connection. She had met the love of her life, Dominick Frank Aluotto, in high school, and the two began dating shortly after. Their bond only deepened over the years. The couple married on June 9, 1956, in Hoboken and began building a beautiful life together. After welcoming four children, they designed and built their house in Parsippany, where they joyfully expanded their family with two more children. That home became the heart of the family, a place filled with love, laughter, the comforting smell of something always cooking on the stove, and countless numbers of the children's friends being welcomed into their home. In 1988, the family relocated to Boonton Township, where they continued creating cherished memories, gathering for holidays, celebrating milestones, and filling their home with the same warmth, joy, and togetherness that defined their family life from the very beginning.

A devoted wife, homemaker, and mother, Florence poured her heart into raising her six children. She was a steady presence in every school hallway and on every sideline. She volunteered in the PTA, organized fundraisers, and cheered on her children in every endeavor. She generously gave her time and talents, later serving for many years as the volunteer librarian at St. Christopher School, where her love of books inspired generations of young readers. A lifelong lover of literature, Florence was always reading at least one book and could always be counted on for the perfect recommendation.

Florence's hands were rarely still. A gifted knitter, she created countless hats, scarves, mittens, blankets, and baby sweaters, each stitch a gesture of love. She crafted treasures for her children and grandchildren, but her generosity extended far beyond her family. She knitted blankets for seniors and donated warm winter items to local shelters, always thinking of those who might need comfort or care. Her quiet acts of kindness touched more people than she ever realized.

She also had a deep love for sports. A devoted fan of the New York Giants, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and Penn State Nittany Lions, she never missed a game if she could help it. Nothing, however, brought her more joy than watching her children and grandchildren compete. To them, and to all their friends, she was “G Flo,” a name that perfectly captured her fun, modern, and vibrant spirit.

A woman of strong faith, Florence lived her Catholic beliefs through daily acts of service and compassion. Her faith grounded her, guided her, and remained a constant source of strength throughout her life. She also found joy and connection as a member of the Denville Senior Citizen community, where she cherished the friendships and laughter she shared with the other senior women.

Even into her 90s, Florence remained wonderfully sharp, wise, and delightfully up to date. She mastered her smartphone, used her computer with ease, and even joined Facebook and Snapchat, always eager to stay connected with the people she loved. She adored music, good conversation, and any gathering that brought her family together. She was our confidante, our comfort, our pillar of strength, the heart of our family and our beloved Matriarch.

Florence will be deeply and forever missed. Her legacy lives on in the love she gave so freely, the warmth she spread so effortlessly, and the family she cherished above all else.

Florence is now reunited in Heaven with her cherished husband, Dominick; her parents, Florence and George; her brother, George; and her sister, Marie.

Her legacy lives on through her adored children: Stephen & Colette Aluotto of Chester, NJ; Peter Aluotto of North Fort Myers, FL; Roseann Aluotto (the late Tim O’Neal) of Randolph, NJ; James & Lori Aluotto of Chester, NJ; Maria & Glenn Hauser of Long Valley, NJ; and Christa Racine & Chris Ryan of Denville, NJ. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Dominick & Karlie Aluotto, Nicholas Aluotto, Lianne Aluotto, Daniel & Sabrina Aluotto, Christopher & Katie Aluotto, Carolyn & Todd Cohn, Carli Aluotto, Erika Hauser, Kristine Hauser, Sarah Racine, and Rebecca Racine; her six treasured great-grandchildren; and many dear nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 30th from 1–5 PM at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 1st at 10 AM at St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, 10 North Pocono Road, Mountain Lakes. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Pleasant Hill Road, Chester. Memorial donations in Florence’s memory may be made to Saint Elizabeth University via inmemof.org, ensuring proper acknowledgment.
