Obituary of Daniel J. Kanter
Daniel J. Kanter, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully at his home in Denville, New Jersey, on November 16, 2025.
Born in Queens, New York, to Jules and Estelle (Goldberg) Kanter, Daniel spent most of his life in Morris Plains before settling in Denville five years ago. Exceptionally gifted and endlessly curious, he earned his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. from Columbia University, where he studied Electrical Engineering, Physics, and Computer Science.
Daniel’s early career included work with RCA and Picatinny Arsenal before he joined his brother in building Packard Industries, a global antique auto parts business based in Boonton, New Jersey. As Vice President, he was instrumental in the company’s success and was widely respected for his intelligence, leadership, and engineering expertise.
A passionate antique automobile enthusiast and dedicated stamp collector, Daniel approached his hobbies with the same zeal and meticulousness he brought to his professional life. Above all, he was a brilliant man with a warm and generous heart who loved his children and grandchildren deeply.
Daniel is survived by his beloved wife, Adeline (Lake) Kanter; his son, Nicholas Kanter; his stepdaughters, Kristine Lake and Genine Bailey; and his cherished grandchildren, David Reiger, Steven Damphir, and Kara. He is also survived by his brothers, Fred Kanter and Larry Kanter, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Quaker Church Road, Randolph, NJ 07869. Arrangements are under the direction of Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville, NJ 07834.
