Obituary of Patrick Murphy
Patrick Murphy, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on November 2, 2025, at the age of 92.
Born on July 30, 1933, in Millstreet, County Cork Ireland, to Daniel and Norah Murphy, Patrick left his homeland at the age of 18 to begin a new chapter of his life in the United States. After arriving in New York, he immediately enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving his new home country. His service, which spanned two years, allowed him to earn his U.S. citizenship; something he cherished deeply. While in New York, Patrick’s life would take another momentous turn when he met Maureen at the iconic Roseland Dance Hall. They quickly fell in love and were married, going on to raise four cherished sons. Patrick worked as an analyst at Metropolitan Life Insurance for many years, tirelessly providing for his family with the same dedication and integrity that defined his entire life.
Outside of his career, Patrick found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life. A passionate baseball fan, he was a devoted New York Yankees supporter, attending games whenever he could. After moving to New Jersey, he also developed a deep affection for the Sussex County Miners and became a regular at their home games at Skylands Park.
Though Patrick embraced his American life, he never forgot his Irish roots. He made numerous trips back to Ireland over the years and kept his Irish heritage close to his heart. His love for Irish music was ever-present, filling his days with the sounds of his homeland, no matter where he was.
But above all, Patrick was a family man, and his greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren. Whether it was celebrating holidays or attending school events, he took pleasure in the small moments that brought his family together. Patrick’s loved ones remember him as a humble and kind man, someone who always found happiness in the simplest of things and made everyone feel like family.
Though we are saddened by his passing, we take comfort in knowing that he is happily reunited in Heaven with his wife, Maureen Murphy, his son, Daniel Thomas Murphy, his dog, Buttons, his sister, Kathleen Feeney, and his parents, Daniel and Norah Murphy. It is now up to those he leaves behind to carry on his memory of kindness and generosity. Patrick leaves behind his sons, Michael Murphy (Gina), Denis Murphy (Laura), Robert Murphy (Marcy), his grandchildren, Samantha, Michelle, Brian, Erin, Liam, Garrett, Connor, Caitlin, his sister, Mary Murphy, as well as many friends and colleagues.
