Obituary of Richard Alan Berta

Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Richard Alan Berta, age 81, of Boonton, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025, at Victoria Mews in Boonton.

Born in Newark, NJ, Richard was the beloved son of the late Joseph and Philomena (Delmanto) Berta and was raised by his Aunt and Uncle Fred and Mary Simms.

He was a 1962 graduate of Hillside High School, after which he apprenticed as a printer. Richard went on to enjoy a long and dedicated 50-year career as a Printer First Class at Barton Press in West Orange, NJ.

Richard lived in Rockaway, NJ for 44 years before moving to Boonton four years ago. He was a devoted member and usher at St. Cecilia’s Church in Rockaway and found great joy in volunteering at St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville. Known for his kind heart and playful spirit, Richard delighted others with his love of magic tricks—often performing for patients, friends, and at children’s birthday parties. Richard was an avid Disney fan and vacationed there almost every summer.

Above all, Richard loved being a father, grandfather and great grandfather. His family was the center of his world, and his warmth, humor, and generosity will be remembered by all who knew him.

He was predeceased by his granddaughter Kyra Beasty; his brother Michael Berta; and his aunt and uncle, Fred and Mary Simms.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Carole Helen (Zagieboylo) Berta of Randolph, NJ; his loving children, Richard Berta of Randolph, NJ; Russell and his wife Yesenia Berta of Wayne, NJ; and Kimberley and her husband John Beasty of Mine Hill, NJ. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Emily, Jake, Zachary, and Abigail Berta, and Kayla and Alex Lanier; and his great-grandson Dean Lanier.

Private services were held under the direction of Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville, NJ 07834.
