Obituary of Barbara L. Stanton

It’s with heavy hearts we announce Barbara Stanton, 86, passed away at home in Ogdensburg, NJ, on October 8, 2025, after a long battle with dementia.

Born November 17, 1938, to Joseph and Frances Lancaster of Denville, New Jersey, Barbara lived in Rainbow Lakes until she married the love of her life, Richard Stanton in 1961. Dedicated to each other in a marriage based in love, humor, and resilience, they would light up the dance floor every chance they got. Upon starting their family, they eventually settled in Rockaway, New Jersey before moving to Ogdensburg in 1999.

Barbara’s life was centered around caring for others. Her sole purpose was being a mother and friend to her children, as well as being her grandkids’ biggest fan. However, she began an administrative career at Mennen Company before marrying and starting her family. Later, she enjoyed working in the local school system as a teacher’s aide and “lunch lady” so she was always available for her family. This also left time for her to invite in every stray animal appearing on her doorstep. Each found a permanent home and was blessed by her love and affection. 

Barbara is survived by her daughters, Pamela Stanton and Terri Stanton (Gary Conte); her grandchildren, Andreanna Nordland Negri (Brandon Negri), Richard Nordland, and Scott Nordland, Jr. (Kathleen); her great-grandchildren; as well as lifelong friends and extended family.

Our hope is that Barbara is now dancing in heaven with her beloved husband, Richard Stanton, and united with her parents, Joseph and Frances Lancaster and loved ones who have gone before her. 

A public visitation will be held on October 13, 2025, from 3 – 7 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville, NJ. A funeral service will be held on October 14 at 10:00 am at the funeral home; please arrive by 9:30 am. Following, a graveside service will take place at Chester Cemetery, 40 Hillside Road, Chester, NJ. Please consider a donation to the ASPCA in Barbara’s honor by way of www.inmemof.org.
