Obituary of Robert F Kelly
Robert F. Kelly, a devoted father and proud grandfather, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and strength. He was born on November 14, 1942, in Newark, New Jersey, to Joseph and Ann (Hildebrandt) Kelly, and was raised there alongside his beloved brother, Ronald.
After graduating high school, he took on a variety of jobs, but found his true calling in law enforcement. He proudly served as a police officer with the Newark Police Department, where he committed himself fully to protecting and serving his community. His courage and compassion left a lasting impact on those he served and worked alongside.
In addition to his time in law enforcement, Robert also spent many years as a truck driver for Mt. Hope Quarry in Rockaway, a career that became especially meaningful when he was called upon in the wake of the September 11th attacks. Robert was among the drivers who brought essential supplies and equipment to Ground Zero, contributing to the monumental efforts of cleanup and rebuilding. His willingness to step forward in a time of national grief and need spoke volumes about his character.
Of all his accomplishments, Robert was most proud of his family. He was the loving father of four daughters and one son, who were the pride and joy of his life. Becoming a grandfather—and recently, a great-grandfather—only deepened the love he carried for his family. Whether it was a backyard BBQ or a Friday night football game, Robert’s favorite moments were those spent cheering on his grandchildren from the sidelines, always with a beaming smile and unwavering support.
A lifelong fan of the Las Vegas Raiders, Robert wore his team’s colors proudly and passionately. His enthusiasm for football was only rivaled by his love for poker. He found great joy in weekly games with close friends, many of whom became like family over the years. Those poker nights weren’t just about cards—they were about laughter, connection, and camaraderie. His treasured group where he was an active member and former champion, the Parsippany Poker League, fondly remarks that, “Players to Bob’s right won’t have to worry about dealing for him any longer”.
Robert will be remembered not only for the life he lived, but for the lives he touched. His kindness, generosity, and sharp wit left a mark on all who knew him. He lived a life of purpose and principle—a protector, a provider, a friend, and most of all, a loving patriarch.
Robert is survived by his daughters, Dawn Sweeney (Greg), Michelle Kelly (Anna), Kimberly Kelly, Crystal Skei (Pete), his stepsons, Jimmy Condit, Christopher Condit, his grandchildren, Ryan, Michael, Collin, Patrick, Emma, Chloe, Natalie, Francesca, Austin, Kayleigh Jo, his great grandson, August Anthony, as well as many dear friends and colleagues who will remember him fondly. He is now reunited in Heaven with the loved ones who passed before him; his son, Joseph Kelly, his brother, Ronald Kelly, and his parents, Joseph and Ann Kelly.
Hours of public visitation will be held from 4 to 6 PM on Tuesday, September 30, at Norman Dean home for Services. A funeral service will be held at 5:15 PM during the visitation so that folks may share their memories of Robert.
