I had the privilege to work for John for 20 years at AIG's flight department at Teterboro Airport. So here's my story... While working line service for Aero Services in 1985/1986, a new hangar was being built on the property next store. Near completion, I found out that the hangar belonged to American International Group, a NYC Insurance conglomerate. At the time, their flight department was based at Atlantic Aviation on the other side of the field. So I headed there after working 3rd shift one day. I found John, the Director of Aviation Maintenance, in the office and inquired about the open position for AIG line service. He looked at my resume and as soon as he saw I had recently been discharged from the Air Force, he put the resume down and we just chatted for about a half hour. He hired me on the spot! I was thrilled. I worked in line service/facility maintenance for many years and when there was an opening for a maintenance technician/flight engineer, he promoted me to that position. I gained invaluable experience and traveled extensively. John was my boss, but also a mentor and a friend. He was never shy to give you advice on life lessons learned. Always good stuff. 40 years later, aviation remains a wonderful career and I have never forgotten the people that helped me along the way! John gave me that first opportunity and then a second. I am certain that my career path would have been much different if I hadn't gone to see John many years ago. I was able to express my gratefulness years later to him. So again, thank you John for the opportunities you made possible for me and many others along the way. Cheers to a life well lived!. May you rest in peace with your lovely bride Gail.

It was 40 + years ago in the middle of winter, temperatures were hovering around zero degrees. John, had just purchased a new Oldsmobile, Toronado and the Links’, Millareses’ and Goodwins’ were out for dinner in his new car. After dinner which included significant amounts of adult libations (Dewars & Bombay) John had just turned off Glen Road heading to my house on Castlewood Trail when I informed him that in this type of weather it would be most appropriate to drop me off at the front steps of my home which was at the top of a hill. He said not a word and when he reached Castlewood, he proceeded to drive up my front lawn, made a left turn at the rec room window and stopped at the front steps. As I exited the car, I reminded him to pick me up on Monday evening for Monday night football at the Hartung Tavern.
A man could not ask for a better friend than John Link I will miss him terribly.
Sincerely,
Artie Goodwin

Oh my goodness, shocked is an understatement! I was looking at FB and saw the bad news. Obviously, we go way back and could tell a million stories. John was a true friend who genuinely cared for your health and welfare. He loved his wife Gayle and was really never the same after she died. I hope she was waiting for him at those pearly gates because nothing would make him happier! With love, Cathy and Artie Goodwin

John and Gayle were mentors to my husband, Don Fazio and I. He always “looked out” for us, as we were married young, like he and Gayle. We are proud to call the Links more than friends. They both attended all of our children’s christenings and John attended both of our daughters’ NJ weddings, during COVID. I am glad he is at peace with his beloved Gayle.

I always loved anytime I got to see you and hear all of your stories and the wonderful life you lived! You always greeted me with such a heartfelt smile and always cared about how I was really doing! You always had words of encouragement and made me laugh.
Your beef stew was amazing and absolutely hit the spot when Ginny dropped it off! And I promise you so how some way we will take that trio to Ireland!!
You will always be loved and missed!
Xoxo

So very sad to hear of John’s passing. John was not only a mentor but also a wonderful kind man. During my many years at BD in the AIG Hangar John was a valuable Friend. John always had time “To Talk”. Whether it was aviation, our shared military experiences or family he was always there. God bless you John. Dave Schuster

John was the most loyal and dedicated person I have ever known. He held his duty to family, friends, and work as his highest priority. To do the right thing was his only option in any decision he made. He was a great teacher in my career who's lessons I have held dear.

I met John in 1978 when he asked me to submit a Resume for a Chief Pilots Position with AIG.
I was accepted for the job and stayed until I retired in 2011.
I stayed close friends with John for both our careers, buying boats at the same time, and cruising together.
I will always remember Chris as a young man flying down to Savannah with us for our G11 maintenance.
John & I we’re Mr Greenberg A team for the longest time,
Giving us both so many good memories.
