Obituary of Gerard Michael Margiotta
Gerard Margiotta, beloved husband, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on September 12, 1946, in Morristown, New Jersey, Gerard was the cherished son of Michelino and Angelina Margiotta and the devoted younger brother of Josephine.
Raised in Denville, Gerard developed a strong work ethic and a passion for learning early in life. He earned his associate’s degree in Engineering and went on to build a meaningful and steady career as an engineer associate at AT&T. His second career was building and renovating homes for himself and also rental properties.
Gerard had a deep love for good food, loved all kinds of music from Doo Wop oldies to rock, and blues music. He kept up with new music as well. He and his wife enjoyed going to the movies every week. He was a talented home cook who found joy in preparing meals and entertaining family and friends, exploring new restaurants of all types of ethnic foods with his wife, Joanne. Music played a constant role in his life— He attended Woodstock in 1969 and went to numerous rock concerts throughout his life and as recent as the Rolling Stones at Met life Stadium in May of last year. His passion for live performance extended from attending his great niece and nephews plays and shows to Broadway, where he and Joanne would enjoy a show together each year, often making it a special tradition. Gerard also loved gardening, growing vegetables and taking care of his many indoor plants. Gerard built the home he and his wife Joanne lived in as well as renovating properties in Denville and building a home in Denville across from Cook’s Pond and most recently his waterfront home in Toms River, NJ. Gerard and his wife Joanne were members of Cook’s Pond swimming in the summer and would enjoy swimming there. Gerard also loved the shore and going to the beach. He began going to the shore in the mid 1960s when his parents bought a home in Toms River. Gerard and his wife continued going there together from the early 70s to the present time. Gerard and his wife took many vacations and traveled to many different places together throughout the years such as London, England, Italy, Paris, France, Hawaii, several Caribbean Islands Angel Falls, Venezuela, Rio DeJaniero, Brazil and Several National Parks in the United States to name a few.
Gerard lived a life rich with love, laughter, and meaningful moments. He will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, strength, and the joy he found in everyday experiences.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne Margiotta, his sister Josephine Turallo and her husband Michael Turallo, his nieces, Catherine Turallo, Rosemarie Burdziak and her husband Pete, Christina Staltari and her husband Anthony, his great nieces and nephews, John Michael Halbig, Dylan Halbig, Joseph Staltari, Anna Staltari, Matteo Staltari, and a host of friends and colleagues who will miss him dearly.
Hours of memorial visitation for Gerard will be held on Sunday, July 13, from 12 to 3 PM at Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Avenue Denville, NJ 07834. www.normandean.com. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, July 14, at 10 AM at St. Mary’s Church of Denville, followed by an interment service at Holy Rood Cemetery of Morristown.
