Obituary of Joyce Marashlian

Please share a memory of Joyce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Joyce Marashlian (Castiglione) passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 10th in Morristown, New Jersey.

Joyce was born on November 22nd, 1943, in New York City to Nunzio and Lucille Castiglione.  She had three sisters, Frances, Marilyn, and Linda, who were the loves of her life.  They grew up in Greenwich Village. Anyone who spent time with Joyce and her sisters recognized the strong bond they shared together.  Joyce’s stories of growing up in the city with her Italian family were a source of laughter and sometimes tears for whoever was lucky enough to hear them.

Joyce and her husband Richard eventually moved to Lake Mohawk in Sparta, New Jersey where they raised two children, Jennifer and Christopher. Joyce found her passion for fitness and became an aerobics instructor and a belly dancer! She was proud of her ability to water ski (slolam no less!) especially given her city-kid roots. Long lazy days spent on the boat on Lake Mohawk with their mom Joyce will always be precious memories for Jen and Chris.

As often happens in life, Joyce’s path changed, and she met her second husband Souki while working at the JC Penney jewelry counter.  She moved to Cedar Knolls and eventually started working in the contracts department at Telcordia in Bridgewater, New Jersey. She shined in her role there and brought her amazing knack for organizing. Joyce was proud of her time there and often talked about the friendships that grew with her “Telcordia ladies.”

Joyce will be remembered for her fierce love of family and friends. She loved having family gatherings, which she would plan down to the last detail to make people feel welcome in her home. She was incredibly proud of helping raise her four beloved grandchildren, Sophia, Lucas, Nolan, and Lilia. Joyce’s warm smile and the way she connected to people made them feel loved and heard.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Soukias Marashlian and is survived by her daughter Jennifer and her husband Frank, her son Christopher and his wife Christina, and her grandchildren Sophia, Lucas, Nolan, and Lilia.

A memorial visitation will be held for Joyce at Norman Dean Home for Services in Denville New Jersey on Tuesday, June 24th from 3:00 to 7:00 pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation BCRF.org.
