David R. George

MOUNTAIN LAKES – David R. George passed away peacefully at the age of 65. Born in Long Island, NY, he was a proud resident of Mountain Lakes, NJ where he lived for over 50 years.

He was raised and educated in Mountain Lakes, where he attended the public school system and graduated from Mountain Lakes High School with the class of 1978. He was predominantly an artist at heart and then graduated from the California Institute of the Arts, located in Santa Clarita, CA,majoring in animation. Soon thereafter, in lieu of a career as an animator, he chose to work for the family business, Engineered Security Systems, Inc. and eventually formed ESSI, LLC alongside his father, Angelo George who predeceased him in 2018.

Living a life of hard work and dedication to his family, he also had a passion for the outdoors, fishing, golf, and spending cherished times with his family and friends, especially his grandson. David loved listening to the Grateful Dead, cheering on the NJ Devils, eating sushi, traveling, and always making people laugh.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Marlis (Lutter) George, and his two daughters, Brittany O’Brien (Dennis) of New Providence, NJ and Kendall George of Brooklyn, NY. He is also survived by his mother, Laurice George, of Mountain Lakes, his sisters Duana George of Haddonfield, NJ, Valeri Work (William) of Destin, FL, and Roberta Matalon of Mountain Lakes. More so, he is survived by his grandson George O’Brien with whom he shared the most precious moments of late. David will be missed by his many nieces and nephews and remembered by all for his humor, creativity, leadership, and endless love for his family.

A Celebration of Life Memorial in honor of David will be held on Friday June 20th at The Lake Arrowhead Club located at 12 Lakewood Drive, Denville, NJ. People are welcome to join anytime between 4:00pm – 8:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in David George’s name to support Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
