Obituary of Ronnie Anthony McLeod, Jr.

Please share a memory of Ronnie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Ronnie Anthony McLeod, Jr., who tragically left us on April 23, 2025, in Denville, NJ, at the age of 55. Ronnie shared a life full of unconditional love, laughter, and unforgettable memories with family and friends, leaving a legacy that will forever resonate in our hearts.

Ronnie was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, to Barbara J. (Henderson) and the late Ronnie A. McLeod, Sr. Growing up surrounded by the love of his family and the energy of Brooklyn, Ronnie’s presence was magnetic. He was charismatic, easy-going, and always ready with a smile or a joke to lift the spirits of those around him. Whether he was sharing time with his brothers or creating memories that would last a lifetime, Ronnie’s heart was always full of love and laughter.

From a young age, Ronnie’s extraordinary musical talent shone through. His gift for singing, coupled with his natural ability to connect with others, made him a standout in every room he entered. As a young man, he had the incredible opportunity to spend time with his father at The Apollo Theater, a place that would fuel his dreams and aspirations. His talent didn’t go unnoticed, and he was fortunate enough to be mentored by the legendary Luther Vandross, who took him under his wing and helped him navigate the music industry. Throughout his career, Ronnie worked with icons such as Millie Jackson and Sister Sledge, and had the honor of opening for Gladys Knight. Most recently Ronnie was a Frontline Singer for The Sensational Soul Cruisers. His voice was soulful, powerful, and filled with emotion—a reflection of the depth of his spirit.

Although music was his passion, Ronnie’s greatest joy was his family. His love for his children, Ronnie Anthony McLeod III, Jaden Smith, Christian McLeod, Ava McLeod, and Amari McLeod, was unparalleled, and he always put them at the center of his world. Ronnie was a devoted son to his mother, Barbara McLeod, and a caring brother to Todd McLeod and Brian McLeod. He shared a special bond with his nephew, Jordan McLeod, and Aunts and Uncle, Carolyn, Linda, Rhonda, and Larry. Ronnie also had a soft spot for animals, and he often said that if not for his music career, he would have loved to be a veterinarian, caring for animals with the same tenderness he showed to people.

Ronnie’s love for children was profound, and he knew that kindness and patience were the greatest gifts one could offer. He treated everyone he met with respect and compassion, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of many. His heart was as big as his voice, and his spirit will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.

He joins in Heaven his beloved father, Ronnie A. McLeod, Sr., but his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who remain. Ronnie is survived by his mother, children, brothers, nephew, aunts and uncle, and his faithful pups, Mack and Zoey. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him, and his light will continue to shine in the lives of those who loved him.

Family and friends are invited to join in a celebration of Ronnie’s life on Wednesday, May 7th, from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville, NJ. A service will begin at 7:30 pm to honor his life and legacy.

In honor of Ronnie’s memory, the family invites friends to share their favorite stories and tributes at normandean.com. His impact was immeasurable, and his memory will live on through the stories of those who were touched by his kindness, music, and love.

The world is a little darker without Ronnie in it, but his music, his love, and his spirit will continue to light the way for all of us.

"Through their art, they touched our souls and left an indelible mark."

For those unable to attend the service, there will be a zoom meeting that has been set up by the family ~
