I met Ed in 1998 at PSE&G. I was a mechanic at Edison FMC for 21 years and just became a supervisor assigned to Irvington. Ed had just become chief mechanic. He became my mentor with how things work in a field location. Although I was his boss he truly taught me a lot. After our first year together 4th of July was approaching. Ed invited my family up to his home for a cookout and fireworks. No matter how many times I asked what could we bring the response was always the same. Bring a bag of chips. We were truly welcomed by everyone especially his 2 boys Keith and Adam. My wife committed to me that his boys were so respectful toward us. Although they had just met us and had their own friends there they made sure to take the time to visit with us and if we needed anything. My fondest memory of Ed was his humor. I came in Friday afternoon as I was working notes and Ed was going home. I said have a nice weekend. He would always reply back don’t tell me what to do! Loved it. We all enjoyed some great fishing and crabbing trips together. A few years later Adam came to work in Irvington and our relationship grew from there. He was Ed’s son and I would always do anything I could to help him. Although I only got to work with Ed for 10 years he and his family left a mark on my career at PSE&G. I am retired now after 45 years. I don’t miss the place, just some of the people that inspired me along the way. Ed and Adam are truly 2 of those great memories that will last a lifetime and I feel truly blessed our paths crossed. Rest in peace my friend/chief. Adam all the best to you and your family. Hope we can stay in touch. Keith I don’t want to leave you or your mom out. Wonderful people.

To the Power Family,
I find it incredibly difficult to articulate the profound loss of Ed. His absence is a heavy weight felt deeply by his family, friends, community, and the brotherhood of the fire department.
Ed was truly a remarkable individual, brimming with knowledge and always eager to mentor new firefighters. His expertise extended far beyond the fire services; he was a well-rounded person who brought humor and wit to every conversation. As the best engineer at Hibernia and an exceptional driver of all the apparatus, he was a cornerstone of our operations.
I have many memories of calls we responded to together, some of which are etched permanently in my mind. Ed consistently answered emergency calls whenever he was available, but it didn’t stop there. He was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in the community, whether it was a project or just helping out in the yard. His late-night visits to the firehouse at 11:20 PM often meant it was time to go home. Yet Ed would engage with everyone, asking about our day and the incidents we had attended, despite having put in a long shift at work. His stories and jokes were a source of joy during those late hours, and many nights were spent sharing laughter over shuffleboard.
Beneath his tough exterior was a kind-hearted and gentle soul who loved his family wholeheartedly. Ed took immense pride in his sons, his grandchildren, and his loving bride. His commitment to his family defined him.
Ed was truly a pillar of his community. He ensured that an engine was available for events such as KDM’s fire prevention day, the children’s July 4th parade, and the fireworks in Telemark. His dedication to these events was a testament to his love for his community.
As we remember Ed, let us honor his humility, kindness, and unique spirit. Though he is sorely missed, the fond and loving memories we have of him will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May he rest in eternal peace—he certainly deserves a special place in heaven.
My heartfelt condolences go out to his entire family during this difficult time.
